“Courage is grace under pressure” is a famous quotation by Ernest Hemingway. Tell us about a personal moment of your grace under pressure.
A few years ago, one of the residents that I took care of died in my arms. It was unexpected. I caught her as she was falling and lowered her to the ground.
When the nurse took her vitals, she said the resident had died. I didn’t freak out or get too dramatic. After a five minute break, I went back to work. It’s part of the job, definitely the saddest part.
It might have been the only time in my whole life that I’ve had any grace under pressure.
Wow! That really is grace under pressure. I didn’t do any geriatric work while I was still working because honestly, I don’t know if I can emotionally deal with constant grief. I’d rather deal with change and hope 🙂
