What do you do to nourish yourself apart from food?
I feel so much better after taking at least one good picture a day. It’s almost as good as eating an apple a day. On days that I take several good photographs, I am over the moon.
My favorite days are days that I have time to take photographs of places that I don’t get to go every day. I haven’t been back to my hometown for at least a year. I’ve been to the other town that I call my hometown recently but there hasn’t been time to stop and visit. Plus, the weather was so horrible that I was afraid to stop, in case the snow attacked me. . . again. The weather was relentless with all of the snow and ice.
So I visited both hometowns today. It was an unplanned trip for the most part. I had to go to Tiffin today but I figured I would drive past some places that held some nostalgia.
Occasionally, I have a recurring dream that I attended Heidelberg University. I did not attend Heidelberg though. Since I was young and ready to assert my independence, I went to Bluffton University. Both are lovely universities. Heidelberg was just too close to home.
I hear that they have an excellent education program. Bluffton does as well.
When I was a kid, I took ballet lessons at Heidelberg University. It was fun. I see people from the class once in awhile. It always feels like old home week whenever I see the girls, who are now women. It doesn’t seem that long since we were in Mrs. Murray’s class together. However, it was more than 25 years ago. WOW!!! 25 years!!
So after all of the nostalgia at Heidelberg, I drove past my parent’s old house. When they moved out, the chimney wasn’t complete. In the last two years, the new owners have finished it. It only took twenty years. 🙂
Well, I can’t go home to this home. Just driving down the road reminds me of the past. One of the boys that lived down the road passed away in 2005. When we were kids, he would ride bike down to my house. On one visit, my mom remembers him saying “Put down that dog and give me a hug.” It also makes me wonder “I was holding a dog?!” Yet again, little dogs are ruining my reputation for being a cat person. It makes me smile and wish we could go back in time. I’m pretty sure my mom came out with her camera and took pictures of him trying to hug me. I’ll have to go through the photo albums that she recently handed over to me.
I hadn’t seen him for such a long time. When I went to college, I didn’t come home often. I didn’t forget about my neighbor. It is possible that I got too involved in being in my own introverted bubble. I’m positive that he was off playing baseball or some sport like he should have been. I like to think that he’s in Heaven fishing or playing sports.
All in all, I did enjoy my trip down memory lane, although it was bittersweet. I did visit my friend. Next time, I’ll bring flowers or something appropriate.
This is beautiful. I love to cuddle with my puppy and drink a glass of wine. Such moments make me immensely happy. A few years ago, I visited the small town where I spent much of my childhood. I remembered many of the places, but it looked so different. My grandfather is buried there, so that place will always walk with me.
Thanks for sharing with Hump Day Happenings!
Thanks! 🙂 It’s nice to take the trip sometimes. I don’t usually have much time. It was totally worth the trip. 🙂
