Searching for a Landmark: Battle of Lake Erie

Advertisements

This morning I was on the hunt for a specific historical marker. I wanted to find the Third Port in the Battle of Lake Erie sign, which would be Crystal Rock, Ohio. I walked down the road that it’s supposed to be on. However, I’m pretty sure it’s not there.

I went home and Googled the coordinates. According to the coordinates, the location is across the Sandusky Bay. I know that Crystal Rock, Ohio is not at these coordinates.

It’s really here.

So my question, is why? Why would you go through all of the trouble of researching, getting a historical marker and advertising, only to put a marker in the wrong place? Historical land markers aren’t that easy to come by are they? If the marker is across the bay, then what is the reason? I’m really curious.

If the anyone has seen the marker, please contact me so I can see it. I just wanted to take a picture for a different post.

  1. Kate @ Did That Just Happen? – I'm an just over 40, single mother of a wonderful teenage boy, who is an endless source of wonder and laughs and gray hair. I may have a small life, but it's full to the brim, and frequently I just have to stop and ask myself "Did that just really happen??" Enjoy!
