Sorry I was a Weird Kid: NaBloPoMo

What support are you grateful you had as a child to help you grow?

My childhood was really great. My parents and grandparents were really supportive of me. They went to the majority of my school events. They took me places, like Disney and other states. I could read whatever book I wanted to read. If I wanted to go somewhere or do something, my parents tried to take me. I think it’s because I never wanted to go anywhere or do anything. I was pretty happy reading books and watching Oprah.

I wasn’t a normal kid in some ways: I didn’t like video games and I liked books. I guess I haven’t changed that much: I still don’t like video games and I still like books.

My parents didn’t get me sometimes but they tried. You can’t ask for more than that, right?

Every summer, I went to stay with my grandparents at their cottage. It was on a small lake in Michigan. I got to swim and read books in the sun all day every summer, until I was about 15. It was really awesome. My mom was over the moon because I went outside.

You could say I was spoiled. I was definitely taken care of and loved.

When I got tattoos, they still loved me. When I became a little more unbalanced and depressed, some distanced themselves but I think they still like me a little. It’s part of my charm.

  1. Kate @ Did That Just Happen? – I'm an just over 40, single mother of a wonderful teenage boy, who is an endless source of wonder and laughs and gray hair. I may have a small life, but it's full to the brim, and frequently I just have to stop and ask myself "Did that just really happen??" Enjoy!
