Interview with . . . Odd Robot

Odd Robot has some great album covers and posters. Their music isn’t too shabby either. By the way, they have a new album coming out August 3.  (Dude, it’s today. TODAY!!!!)

So I wanted to do an interview with them so much that I sent them questions in two separate emails. I’m not committed to much but this interview is the obviously the exception.

Is chainsaw pop as terrifying as it sounds?

Not even a little bit. Well, maybe to someone’s grandmother.

Where was your first show?

We played our first show, I believe, at Morgan’s Tavern in Riverside. The power went out at least twice. Cursed from the get-go!

Do you think Alexa and Suri are robots? Is that why they don’t know what friendship is?

Alexa and Siri are to robots as the mind is to humans. They’re pretty dumb. Maybe we should keep it that way? If they get too smart they will want to get paid and have actual bodies. I’m terrified now. Where’s my night light?

Do you have a favorite robot? Or a least favorite robot?

I love Wall-E. Such a great film. Eeevaahhhh!

Is there a beer that matches well with pancakes?

I prefer coffee and crepes. Although, a coffee stout and pancakes would be delicious.

Who does your artwork for your posters? Can we buy it online somewhere?

Tim Cochran (IG @timcochranart) does the illustrations and Todd Smailes (IG @toddball) does the layouts. They are both insanely talented. Our bandcamp merch site will be updated soon!

Have you ever been anywhere that was beyond weird?

The weirdest / coolest place I’ve been of late was a backyard Jeff Rosenstock show in Las Vegas. I watched him play from a swimming pool. Shit was unreal dude.

How much can a person spend on merch and not feel guilty?

It really depends on how much of your money you drank that night. Maybe $40? That will usually get you an LP and a shirt.

What do you want people to know about Odd Robot?

We’re going to put out a third record in 2019 and then call it quits. Reunion show is in the works for 2028. Assuming our backs and knees don’t give out first. We will sell out multiple nights at a mid-sized venue and wonder where all the fans came from. Amnesiatic is out August 3rd on vinyl, digital, and CD (what are those?). Give us a follow on the socials @oddrobotband. We love you!
