Queens of Funk: Chaka Khan

ck-on-stage1
Chaka Khan on Jimmy Kimmel Live. I’m almost 100% sure that the guitarist is Ricky Rouse.

Can you name anyone else in the band Rufus? I’d be willing to bet that people know Chaka Khan and draw a blank when asked who else is in the band. Rufus is a great band but Chaka Khan stole the show.

I love Chaka Khan. I love her so much that when I saw in concert, I went as close to the stage as I could get – almost to the fence. Normally, I hang out in the back. Not this time. I was so close that I could see the color of her eyeshadow. Of course, my camera was broken – I didn’t find out until later- so I don’t have pictures. The experience is still mine and no one can take it from me.

Several phones ago, “Tell Me Something Good” was the ringtone that told me that my boyfriend was calling. My co-worker used to laugh and say “Tell- Me -Something -Good is texting you again.”

My friend had a friend named Chaka Khan Jones. I was never brave enough to name my kids Chaka Khan.

Anyway, if you get a chance to see Chaka Khan live and in person, do not hesitate to go. She’s amazing and will probably obliterate your eardrums.

  1. I loved Chaka Khan from the moment I first heard this song 44 years ago, and love her still. “Sweet Thing” was so fantastic, and then of course there’s the phenomenal “I Feel For You.”

    1. “Sweet Thing” is so fantastic! 🙂

  2. I loved “Tell me Something Good” when it first came out. I wasn’t old enough to know much about what it was about but even then I knew good music when I hear it.
When I was in Cleveland last week I noticed Rufus was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame – of course I had to give them one of my votes 😀
