How to Make Your Instagram as Fierce as RuPaul

RuPaul has an amazing Instagram account. We may never be that fierce in real life or on Instagram. But we have to try, right?! So I put together a few tips to improve your Instagram.

Check out RuPaul’s Instagram when you can.

  1. Don’t follow everyone. I made the mistake of following everyone that followed me. Years later, I’m still weeding out tons of It Works distributors and other people selling candles or Tupperware. Instagram doesn’t have a way to organize followers, which is so annoying. The list of followers is one gigantic list.
  2. Use hashtags. Make up your own hashtags if you feel so inclined.
  3. Participate in photo challenges. Maybe you’ll find your people out there.
  4. Take photos of stuff that you like. I like ice cream, books, and music so all of those things are on my Instagram over here:  https://www.instagram.com/holleylolleyland/
  5. Take photos of popular things: coffee, food, animals, clothes, concerts, travel posts.
  6. Make it as personal as you want. I guess people will like selfies until the end of time. If you’re not into selfies, put yourself out there a little at a time. Take a photo of your manicure or your new shoes, old shoes, etc.
  7. It should be a reflection of who you really are. I know, Instagram makes it so easy to make everything beautiful. Take advantage of those filters.
  8. Try to make connections with people. Like their photos. Comment on their photos.
  9. Take photos every day if you can.
  10. The truth is that nobody is as fierce as RuPaul. But don’t give up trying to be the fiercest you that you can be.

However, this blog has come to be quite dear to me. As an indie author, I share and promote the books of others as well as my own. My published works are epic fantasy, urban fantasy, and mysteries touched with magic. Most are set in other eras, probably because I never really felt at home in my own time. I hope you'll stop by, read something, enjoy it, and leave a note saying hello. http://teagansbooks.wordpress.com/about/ Also check out my Amazon Author Page. relinks.me/TeaganRiordainGeneviene

Instagram is just one more thing that I haven’t had time to do — but know I *should*. Sounds like great advice Holley. And RuPaul is the epitome of fierce! 😀 Hugs.

  2. All good points. Like every form of social media, one learns as we go. I initially followed every person who followed me or even liked one of my posts, but soon learned that quite a few people follow to get more followers, then quickly drop us to keep their follow numbers low, just like some do on Twitter – which I think sucks! When people have 15,000 followers but follow only 900, it’s a clear sign they play that game (unless they’re huge celebrities or musicians). I no longer follow those accounts back, cuz I know they’ll soon drop me, nor do I follow back accounts I’m really not interested in.

As for selfies, I’m now old and no longer the hottie I was 25 years ago, so there’s little point in posting pics of myself lol.
