Cold Case Quest: Reggie Elkins

Advertisements

While I was looking through cold cases, I saw a familiar face. It was a picture of Reggie Elkins. I knew him as an acquaintance. We went to the same small college. So everyone knew everyone.

My impression of Reggie was that he was smart and athletic. He also always looked sharp. Some guys are slobs but Reggie was not one of those guys.

There is probably a better photo of him somewhere. This is the only one that I could find on the internet. He was killed on December 14, 1994, so he wasn’t on MySpace or Facebook. It’s been challenging to find anything related to his college days or his murder investigation.

It’s hard to believe that it has been 24 years since Reggie died. He was killed in a drive-by shooting in Columbus, Ohio. He had been out of college for only a few months.

No one will say whether he was the intended target or not. Someone knows but no one has said a word even after so many years.

There’s an article from 1999 that states that the authorities had a theory that several homicides were connected. They thought 13 murders were related to either drugs or robbery.

His father, Larry Elkins, was interviewed for the article. Unfortunately, his father passed away in 2009. It is absolutely heartbreaking that Reggie Elkin’s dad died without knowing who the shooter was. We may never know why it happened but Reggie’s father might have been somewhat satisfied with knowing who committed the crime.

  1. booksfromdusktilldawn – Uttoxeter, Staffordshire – Hi my name is Sue Hampson and as from today I am a Blogger, so here is a little about myself. I have always had a love of reading but it did escalate once I was bought a kindle. I read and listen to about 5 books per week but it is only over this last 18 months that I have realised how important reviewing is to other fellow readers and authors. I believe over time that my reviews have improved same as anything else you do regular. If I like an author's books I tend to buy everything they write, I never use unlimited on Amazon as I am a keeper of books and would hate to return them. I always respect that an author has spent months and months to produce a novel and I won't after taking a night to read it put up a terrible review. I would contact the author or publisher and say this novel isn't for me. It doesn't mean there is anything wrong with it but I have chosen badly. I am not perfect, I never have been. I'm the one as a child that always walked into lamp posts and fell over. Mum tried to help and used to put me plasters on my knees before I went out to save me the trouble of coming back in . I have 5 grown up children and 9 grandchildren all which seem to have taken after me bless 'em to the extent that they have set up a joint chat page called Ma's bad Genes! I love reading, I always have but my punctuation and grammar aren't the best but I do know a good story when I read it. That is what I review on the story. I do reviews on Amazon.uk, Amazon.com, Goodreads, Netgalley, Twitter with links to publisher and author, my fb book page and Independent authors. I love lots of genres Criminal Procedural, Mystery &Thrillers, Horror, Romance, Erotica and Fantasy. I do like variety. I’m so sorry for your family’s loss.

  2. I met Reggie when he attended Bluffton. We met through a friend and continued to see each other after he left Bluffton. I’ll never forget receiving that phone call that he had been killed. The police didn’t even care. So so sad.

    1. Hello my name is Gayla Elkins and I am the niece of Reginald Elkins. I was only two years old at the time of the murder but my mother which is my uncles sister, they were very close. I am saddened to say but I am just now finding out that justice was never served in the murder of my uncle. I would love to know how I could get in contact with the person that wrote this article. It brought tears to my eyes knowing justice has never been served for my family.
