“Where Have All My Friends Gone” by BOYO- aka Robert Tilden- is different from most of the music I listen to. It seems like he is doing things differently than before. The musician had a health scare in 2017, which led to a long road to recovery. So here he is after a few years with a new album.
“The experience shaped my perspective but it inherently shaped the album as well,” Tilden says. “I use music to work through my problems and things I don’t understand, so this record has been a one-sided therapy session in a way. It doesn’t have to be this brooding, dark thing; it can be more connective.”
It reminds me of some shoegaze music but not anything specific. My favorite songs on the album are “Southern Gothic” and “Forget It.” BOYO is experimenting with his sound. It’s cool though. I’m always interested in hearing a person’s story through music or writing.
I’d like to listen to this album at a hipster coffee shop somewhere. I don’t have any friends either. Maybe there will be future friends at the coffee shop. We could bond over how creepy the cover of this album is. It’s the stuff of my nightmares but I cannot look away.
Anyway, check out BOYO’s links if you get a chance.
