The Keeper: #bookreview

the keeper

The main character of The Keeper, Rachel Jameson is a senior at Glendale College. I’m not sure if it’s the same place as the college in California. Apparently, someone wasn’t paying attention to the location except that they seemed to have lovely weather most of the time. Rachel aka RJ was able to get an athletic scholarship by playing soccer.

RJ’s home life was terrible and abusive. So she is really depending on getting her degree in order to have better opportunities after graduation. She works extremely hard in the classroom and on the soccer field.

At the beginning of the soccer season, she meets a man named Mack at a party. They exchange phone numbers, have a date and everything is going really well. Then they discover that Mack is the new soccer coach. So having a relationship could be detrimental to her scholarship as well as his career. Is dating Mack going to be worth the hassle of losing so much?

I was so glad that at least RJ was 21 years old instead of a minor. There are so many movies that make it seem ok for a 16 or 17-year-old to be in a relationship with her teacher or coach, who is absolutely too old. Maybe I have never had a teacher that has been handsome enough. My teachers did not look like Channing Tatum or Michael B. Jordan. When I was 16, I thought older guys were gross and well . . . old.

They try to be friends, coach, and player. It doesn’t work out like they want. They try to stay away from each other and that doesn’t work out either. Why are they in such a hurry? I think they worry too much about time.

I think Camila Mendes would be a good choice to play Rachel. Zac Efron is still athletic and in the right age range to play Mack. Kat Dennings and Adam Rodriguez would be my second choices. Who would you choose if you were the casting director?

If you are a fan of soccer and romance, then this might be a good choice for you. Shoutout to all of the soccer moms waiting in their mini-vans for practice to be over.

If you don’t like sports or romance, then what do you like?
