Interview with . . . Catching Mangoes

Catching Mangoes

Today we are very lucky that George‌ ‌ ‌of the Catching Mangoes has taken a moment to answer a few questions on Chasing Destino.

Catching‌ ‌Mangoes of ‌Forest Row, Sussex is a rock band with incredibly catchy tunes and a healthy sense of humor. The current lineup includes

George, Max and Dan. Please welcome George to the blog!

 ‌Tell‌ ‌us‌ ‌about‌ ‌your‌ ‌latest‌ ‌project:‌ ‌ ‌

Earlier‌ ‌this‌ ‌year‌ ‌we‌ ‌released‌ ‌our‌ ‌debut‌ ‌album‌ ‌called‌ ‌Kevin’s‌ ‌Town.‌ ‌It’s‌ ‌a‌ ‌concept‌ ‌album‌ ‌following‌ ‌the‌ ‌story‌ ‌of‌ ‌a‌ ‌young‌ ‌lad‌ ‌called‌ ‌Kevin,‌ ‌who‌ ‌is‌ ‌trying‌ ‌to‌ ‌escape‌ ‌his‌ ‌hometown‌ ‌in‌ ‌search‌ ‌of‌ ‌his‌ ‌long-lost‌ ‌father‌ ‌and‌ ‌save‌ ‌his‌ ‌hometown‌ ‌from‌ ‌a‌ ‌terrible‌ ‌fate.‌ ‌We‌ ‌recorded‌ ‌it‌ ‌last‌ ‌year‌ ‌in‌ ‌Brighton‌ ‌and‌ ‌spend‌ ‌so‌ ‌much‌ ‌time‌ ‌and‌ ‌energy‌ ‌on‌ ‌this‌ ‌project,‌ ‌I‌ ‌can‌ ‌honestly‌ ‌say‌ ‌I’m‌ ‌so‌ ‌proud‌ ‌of‌ ‌it‌ ‌and‌ ‌would‌ ‌mean‌ ‌the‌ ‌world‌ ‌for‌ ‌you‌ ‌to‌ ‌go‌ ‌and‌ ‌check‌ ‌it‌ ‌out!‌ ‌We‌ ‌have‌ ‌some‌ ‌vinyl‌ ‌available,‌ ‌a‌ ‌mini-documentary‌ ‌and‌ ‌various‌ ‌other‌ ‌projects‌ ‌related‌ ‌to‌ ‌the‌ ‌album…‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Where‌ ‌was‌ ‌your‌ ‌first‌ ‌concert‌ ‌as‌ ‌a‌ ‌fan?‌ ‌As‌ ‌a‌ ‌performer?‌ ‌ ‌

As‌ ‌a‌ ‌fan‌ ‌it‌ ‌was‌ ‌actually‌ ‌Paul‌ ‌McCartney‌ ‌at‌ ‌Hyde‌ ‌Park‌ ‌which‌ ‌is‌ ‌pretty‌ ‌monumental!‌ ‌Saw‌ ‌him‌ ‌when‌ ‌I‌ ‌was‌ ‌a‌ ‌kid‌ ‌with‌ ‌my‌ ‌family‌ ‌and‌ ‌I‌ ‌remember‌ ‌loving‌ ‌it‌ ‌then.‌ ‌We‌ ‌cut‌ ‌our‌ ‌teeth‌ ‌playing‌ ‌at‌ ‌tiny,‌ ‌local‌ ‌venues‌ ‌and‌ ‌festivals‌ ‌and‌ ‌it‌ ‌slowly‌ ‌but‌ ‌surely‌ ‌grew‌ ‌from‌ ‌there.‌ ‌

What‌ ‌is‌ ‌the‌ ‌secret‌ ‌to‌ ‌writing‌ ‌good‌ ‌music?‌ ‌

 ‌Take‌ ‌your‌ ‌time‌ ‌and‌ ‌try‌ ‌and‌ ‌always‌ ‌try‌ ‌to‌ ‌create‌ ‌the‌ ‌best‌ ‌possible‌ ‌song‌ ‌that‌ ‌you‌ ‌can,‌ ‌even‌ ‌if‌ ‌this‌ ‌ends‌ ‌up‌ ‌being‌ ‌completely‌ ‌different‌ ‌from‌ ‌the‌ ‌original.‌ ‌I‌ ‌also‌ ‌love‌ ‌making‌ ‌my‌ ‌songs‌ ‌a‌ ‌little‌ ‌story‌ ‌in‌ ‌themselves‌ ‌so‌ ‌each‌ ‌one‌ ‌is‌ ‌a‌ ‌journey‌ ‌in‌ ‌a‌ ‌way.‌ ‌ ‌

Do‌ ‌you‌ ‌have‌ ‌a‌ ‌bucketlist?‌ ‌If‌ ‌so,‌ ‌what’s‌ ‌on‌ ‌it?‌ ‌ ‌

I’d‌ ‌love‌ ‌to‌ ‌play‌ ‌outside‌ ‌the‌ ‌UK,‌ ‌maybe‌ ‌do‌ ‌a‌ ‌European‌ ‌tour‌ ‌then‌ ‌take‌ ‌on‌ ‌the‌ ‌rest‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌world?‌ ‌Not‌ ‌sure‌ ‌if‌ ‌that‌ ‌counts‌ ‌as‌ ‌a‌ ‌bucket‌ ‌list‌ ‌but‌ ‌I’m‌ ‌deffo‌ ‌up‌ ‌for‌ ‌that‌ ‌…‌ ‌

 ‌What‌ ‌was‌ ‌the‌ ‌last‌ ‌thing‌ ‌that‌ ‌you‌ ‌read?‌ ‌ ‌

Currently‌ ‌I’m‌ ‌reading‌ ‌Jordan‌ ‌Peterson’s‌ ‌second‌ ‌book‌ ‌Beyond‌ ‌Order.‌ ‌I‌ ‌think‌ ‌its‌ ‌really‌ ‌interesting‌ ‌hearing‌ ‌his‌ ‌thoughts‌ ‌on‌ ‌life‌ ‌and‌ ‌where‌ ‌to‌ ‌find‌ ‌meaning,‌ ‌even‌ ‌in‌ ‌small‌ ‌areas.‌ ‌ ‌

 ‌What‌ ‌are‌ ‌you‌ ‌listening‌ ‌to‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌moment?‌ ‌

 ‌I’m‌ ‌really‌ ‌into‌ ‌Jeff‌ ‌Buckley‌ ‌at‌ ‌the‌ ‌moment,‌ ‌he’s‌ ‌got‌ ‌such‌ ‌a‌ ‌smooth‌ ‌voice‌ ‌and‌ ‌the‌ ‌way‌ ‌he‌ ‌sings‌ ‌on‌ ‌that‌ ‌album‌ ‌is‌ ‌mesmeric,‌ ‌such‌ ‌a‌ ‌shame‌ ‌I‌ ‌never‌ ‌got‌ ‌to‌ ‌see‌ ‌him‌ ‌play‌ ‌live.‌ ‌ ‌

What‌ ‌do‌ ‌you‌ ‌want‌ ‌people‌ ‌to‌ ‌know‌ ‌about‌ ‌your‌ ‌music?‌ ‌

 ‌I‌ ‌want‌ ‌people‌ ‌to‌ ‌know‌ ‌that‌ ‌we‌ ‌had‌ ‌loads‌ ‌of‌ ‌fun‌ ‌creating‌ ‌all‌ ‌the‌ ‌music‌ ‌that‌ ‌we‌ ‌have‌ ‌out‌ ‌there,‌ ‌and‌ ‌that‌ ‌it’s‌ ‌supposed‌ ‌to‌ ‌be‌ ‌a‌ ‌pretty‌ ‌lighthearted‌ ‌concept‌ ‌with‌ ‌good‌ ‌music‌ ‌that’s‌ ‌been‌ ‌properly‌ ‌thought‌ ‌out‌ ‌and‌ ‌worked‌ ‌hard‌ ‌on.‌ ‌I‌ ‌would‌ ‌also‌ ‌like‌ ‌people‌ ‌to‌ ‌know‌ ‌that‌ ‌are‌ ‌gigs‌ ‌are‌ ‌always‌ ‌a‌ ‌great‌ ‌laugh‌ ‌and‌ ‌that‌ ‌you‌ ‌should‌ ‌come‌ ‌check‌ ‌us‌ ‌out‌ ‌live!!!‌ ‌
