Interview with . . . A Permanent Shadow

A Permanent Shadow of Barcelona is probably churning out new electronic rock music as we speak. Singer CP Fletcher has taken some time away from musical projects in order to do an interview on this blog. I recommend checking out their music and their band merch. Who can resist a pink swan? (Not me that’s for sure!)

Please welcome A Permanent Shadow to the blog.

A Permanent Shadow

Who is answering the questions?

My name is CP Fletcher and I’m the singer in A Permanent Shadow.

Tell us about your latest project

Our new album “Humdrum” will be out on March 4th

Where was your first concert as a fan? As a performer?

As a fan it was Shakin’ Stevens many, many years ago. I can’t remember much of it as I was so little, I just remember that my father was pissed off because Shaky didn’t sound like on the albums.

As a performer, it must have been some school party or something similar where I played drums possibly behind some really awful band.

What is the secret to writing good music?

Good question. I think a good song comes from the heart, first and foremost. You should never fake it. Songwriting is like skiing or biking, the longer you do it, the better you become at it.

Do you have a bucketlist? If so, what’s on it?

Tour the Far East. That would definitely be a dream come true. On a personal level, travel a lot more in the future and explore different cultures.

What was the last thing that you read?

I’m currently reading Will Sergeant’s autobiography, and it’s really good to say the least.

What are you listening to at the moment?

I’ve been listening to the Pixies “Live in Brixton” boxset a lot recently. They are still a fantastic band, although I miss Kim Deal a bit.

If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing?

I’m a trained grief counsellor, so I would probably help other people make it through hard times.

Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?

I like The Anchoress a lot, she’s an amazing artist. Also John Grant would be a great choice.

What do you want people to know about your music?

Our music comes from the heart, is a bit quirky but overall quite catchy I’d say. If you like eighties influenced Electronic Rock, give us a try!

“Just a small town girl – living in a lonely world.” Concert tickets are practically essential. Musicals are the key to life. I like movies, music, books, and corny jokes.
