Interview with . . . Stonebrother

Apparently, kitchen parties are a big deal in the Nova Scotia music scene, which is where rock band Stonebrother is from. In the US, I think we call it a house party. Kitchen party sounds more fun. Either way, you are going to want Stonebrother to play.

Stonebrother consists of Zach Smith, Ethan Smith, and Leo Cox on bass. While you’re waiting on them to play at your kitchen party, take a peek at the following interview with band member Zach Smith.

Interview:

Who is answering the questions?

Zach Smith (Vocals/Guitar)

Band/Artist Name

Stonebrother

Tell us about your latest project:

We recorded three new singles called ‘Preach’, ‘Cold Day in Hell’ and ‘Faceless’ that will be released soon on major streaming platforms.

Where was your first concert as a fan? As a performer?

As a fan, my first concert was Billy Talent at the Cunard Centre in Halifax. Great night. I saw them again a few years ago and it was still great.

As a performer, it’s hard to point to a first show because I’ve been performing since I was a little kid. The first concert for the band was the Trunk 7 Music Festival, 2015.

What is the secret to writing good music?

Not overthinking it. Once you have a starting point, whether that’s a riff, a lyric, whatever, just get out of the way and let it write itself.

Do you have a bucketlist? If so, what’s on it?

At the moment it’s to do an out-of-province tour.

What was the last thing that you read?

Steven Tyler’s autobiography. I just bought the Tom Petty biography by Warren Zanes and I’m excited to get into it.

What are you listening to at the moment?

The new Slash album and the Stones primarily for now, but it’s subject to change at any time.

If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing?

Hard to know because music has been such a huge part of my life since I was a kid, I would say probably engineering.

What do you want people to know about your music?

That it’s real. Everything you hear on our tracks is a real instrument played by one of us. And that goes for the songs themselves too. Everything we write starts as a musical idea.
