Concept metal band Cthulhu Dreamt has recently released their EP, Precursor, into the universe. If you are interested there is also a game to go along with the music. Band members, Reed Reimer and Jake Myslinski, have provided some insight in the following interview.
Please welcome Reed and Jake of Cthulhu Dreamt to the blog!
Who is answering the questions?
Reed Reimer: Writer, Guitar, Vocals
Jake Myslinski: Writer, Guitar
Band/Artist Name:
Cthulhu Dreamt
Tell us about your latest project:
Reed: Our EP, Precursor, is out now, and it’s one of those things that might not have happened if the huge (not-quite-secret) thing we’re working on hadn’t been delayed. As it is, we’re using this EP to expand the sound world of Cthulhu Dreamt, as well as establishing some musical themes we’ll be exploring in our upcoming chapter.
Where was your first concert as a fan? As a performer?
Reed: First concert as a fan was maybe the ’97 Family Values tour with Korn as the headliner. The nice thing was I also got to see Orgy, Limp Bizkit, Ice Cube, and Rammstein.
First concert as a performer was a coffee house in Grand Forks, ND.
Jake: Opeth and Katatonia was the first show I ever went to. Talk about a dream line-up. Yet to have played a show unfortunately!
What is the secret to writing good music?
Reed: When I figure it out, I’ll let you know 😉
But seriously, the secret is to first make something that you love and enjoy. Anything beyond that is bonus.
Jake: I think a part of writing good music is not putting limits on yourself, follow musicals thread you have regardless of genre.
Do you have a bucketlist? If so, what’s on it?
Reed: Sure, there’s tons of stuff I’d like to do before I die: watch my daughters grow up, make a video game, continue to produce tons of cool stuff with my friends.
Jake: Yes! I think #1 on my list is traveling to Iceland and seeing the Northern Lights.
What was the last thing that you read?
Reed: I just finished reading a novel called ’14’ by Peter Clines.
Jake: I just started re-reading the Dune series, so I’m getting started Dune Messiah.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Reed: The new track by Sleep Token – “The Summoning”
Jake: I’ve been on a huge Lorn kick, Lorn and MØL mostly!
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing?
Reed: Probably driving a truck somewhere, or pushing paper for a railroad company.
Jake: Paintings a hobby I wish I took up when I was younger. Either painting or photography.
Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
Reed: I would never close the door on anyone who wanted to collab, but I think it’d be pretty fun to work on something with our pals from Phase Meridian.
Jake: I could die happy if I collaborated with Mike Patton.
What do you want people to know about your music?
Reed: It’s a story based on very personal trauma of loss, and if it resonates with you, I truly hope it helps in some way. We’ve built a pretty large world and are looking to expand the immersion with our next big chapter: the Cthulhu Dreamt tabletop role playing game.
If that piques your interest, come and check out the preliminary stuff over at https://cthulhudreamt.com
Jake: I think we cover a wide range of styles; one song could sound totally different from the next one!
