Top Ten Tuesday: Magical Realism

Genre Freebie (Pick a genre and build a list around it. It could be a list of favorites, a to-read list, recommendations for people interested in reading books in that genre, “if you like this, try this”, etc.)

Since the topic for Top Ten Tuesday is a genre freebie, this post is a list of my favorite magical realism books. I have been a huge fan of magical realism ever since taking a literature class which focused on surrealism and magical realism.

Side note: I was really hungover during the final exam. I do not recommend drinking the night before final exams. Luckily, I wasn’t hallucinating although it would have been fitting for the class topic to see a unicorn professor and magic markers that are actually magical.

I did watch the movie many years ago. I should watch it again.

Hazel wood and the night circus are two of my favorites books, love the dark fairytale style of the hazel wood

  2. I have to admit this is not a genre I love, I did really enjoy Children of Blood and Bone but I’d say that’s more straight up fantasy than magical realism. The Night Circus had too little plot for me, I loved the setting, but I needed more to actually happen and in The Hazel Wood, I enjoyed the little snippets we got from the Hinterland fairytales more than the rest of the narrative. I’m glad you enjoyed all these though!

  3. I adored The Once and Future Witches! And I’m glad you didn’t hallucinate after all, haha.
