Interview
Who is answering the questions?
Jere: Guitars / Backing vocals
Band/Artist Name:
Heathen Hearts
Tell us about your latest project:
We have been recording our next release, which is in the mixing phase at the moment. We also shot a music video for one of the songs from the release. We are a little bit behind the planned release schedule for different reasons, but we’re getting there. Should be worth the wait.
Where was your first concert as a fan? As a performer?
I cannot remember the actual band, but the first bigger one was Tuska Festival in Finland in 2008. That was an exciting experience for a 15-year old me whose only ambition was to play in a band. My first concert as a performer was probably at some school event with my first band.
What is the secret to writing good music?
Hmmm. I don’t think I know the recipe for writing good music, some people might like it or some might not. Everybody should write what feels real and authentic, and if the composer itself is happy with it, I do think that if other people like it is just a bonus. I would call making music a some kind of therapy which sometimes cannot be even described whether it’s good or bad.
Do you have a bucketlist? If so, what’s on it?
Not maybe a bucket list but a couple of things that would be nice to do at some point. One being skydiving and the second thing is a little bit longer tour outside of Finland.
What was the last thing that you read?
A book about motorcycle clubs in Finland. Last one I listened to was Alexi Laiho’s biography.
What are you listening to at the moment?
All kinds of music from hip hop to pop to black metal. Not any particular favourites at the moment, just shuffling my playlists and vinyls depending on the mood.
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing?
Same as I’m doing now besides music. 7am to 4pm day job, spending time with family and friends etc. Probably I would have some kind of art hobby anyways.
Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
Scott Vogel from Terror would be very nice to have featured.
What do you want people to know about your music?
Authentic aggression yet melodic music that’s poured straight from the heart. We call ourselves a metallic hardcore band, but we have a very wide range of influences which affects our music and arrangements. But the punk / hardcore attitude is there for sure as well as the core of our sound.
