Cold Case: Sharon Warfield

The events that led up to the death of Sharon Warfield on May 31, 1990 began the night before with the theft of a video recorder and credit cards from a neighborhood home.

The neighbors reported the theft to the police on the morning of the 31st. By the afternoon, there were disagreements between the neighbors and an area gang. The police were called again after someone reported the harassment by the gang. No one was arrested and the police left the area.

Around 9 p.m., the group with the neighbors and the gang had another confrontation. Both sides blame the other group for starting the fight.

At the time of the skirmish, Warfield was in front of a grocery store on 5th Street. The fight ended with Sharon Warfield and four other people being shot. 22-year-old Warfield died two hours later from a gunshot wound to the chest. Newspaper reports said that she was also pregnant.

There were witnesses but most were afraid of retaliation by the gang. In May, it will be the 33rd anniversary of Warfield’s homicide. Please honor Sharon Warfield’s memory by coming forward with information to solve her homicide.

  1. As always, it’s awfully hard to ‘like’ these posts. It’s literally criminal (no pun intended whatsoever) that cases like these go unsolved.
