How long have you been writing songs?

I’ve been writing songs for about 2 years now! I spent my whole life singing other people’s songs and I never really knew where to start with my own. When I got to Berklee and was surrounded by so many songwriters I was really inspired to start telling my own stories and fell in love with it.

What would you do without music?

I really don’t know what I’d do without music! I’d probably be really depressed hahah because music is everything to me. Especially since going to college for music, it takes up so much of my life and is what I’m thinking about all the time.

How do you deal with stage fright?

I think the more I’ve performed the more I’ve realized that it’s never as scary as it seems. Before a performance, I remind myself of this and tell myself that I know I am capable of succeeding and have done the preparation to have a successful show. Knowing I’ve prepared all that I can really helps calm my anxiety.

Who has influenced your love for music the most?

My family has definitely influenced my love of music the most. Both of my parents are huge music lovers and I have so many memories growing up at big family gatherings where everyone was just singing and dancing. Making music was always encouraged and appreciated in my family so I always felt like it was something I could do.

Do you have any goals for the next year?

I really hope to release more of my music! My biggest goal right now is to put out my first EP as I’ve been writing so much over the last 2 years I want to put out something that encompasses this time in my life and the things I’ve experienced. I also would love to play more shows this year as well.

What was the last book that you read?

The last book I read was “Beach Read” by Emily Henry! I read the whole thing in a day I really loved the whole plot and all the characters I couldn’t put it down.

What was your first concert as a fan?

My first concert as a fan was seeing Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus in 2007 for her Best of Both Worlds tour haha. She definitely inspired my love of singing and performing when I was younger and seeing her onstage was so life-changing.

What do you want your soon-to-be fans to know?

That I’ll have new music out within the next few months so follow me on socials @maggiecubillos to stay updated on new projects 🙂
