Wedingoth released their fourth album, Five Stars Above, earlier in 2023. If you are new to the band, they are a progressive/symphonic metal band from Lyon, France. The group has been together since 2007. Fun fact: The English translation of wedingoth is “afterwards.”
Wedingoth’s current lineup includes: Céline Nephtys, vocals; Steeven Segarra, guitars, arrangement;
Manon Fortin, bass guitar; Stéphane Rochas, drums.
According to the band, the album is “an invitation to travel and contemplate the universe througough various themes related to creation, time, space and human nature.” I enjoyed the story that the album is telling. It could be a different story every time with every replay.
Some of my favorite tracks on the album are “The Space Man,” “I Don’t Care,” and “My Own Sacrifice.”
“My Own Sacrifice” is about 15 minutes long but it is worth sacrificing every second to hear. The vocals . . . the guitar solos . . . the drum solo . . . It all comes together so perfectly. I wouldn’t even mind if it were 20 minutes long.
If you like any of the following bands, then you might also like Wedingoth and vice versa. Also, Lacuna Coil fans could possibly like the group. They aren’t quite as heavy but the vocals are somewhat similar. It is very likely that you will love Wedingoth if you like progressive and/or symphonic metal.
Sometime in the near future, I would like to listen to the album on a road trip to the next big show.
