The Seshen has a single “Waiting for Dawn,” that has made its way onto our “Track of the Day” radar. The song reminds me of those long nights not being able to sleep due to heartache.
Losing the one person that you thought was meant for you is a challenging process of not sleeping and thinking about the “What ifs.” The lyrics of the song capture that feeling.
‘I’ve been fraying at the edges, coming undone from another lost night, waiting for dawn’
“‘Waiting for Dawn’ is an expression of anticipatory grief – saying goodbye to something you thought you couldn’t live without,” bassist Akiyoshi Ehara shared regarding the track.
While the feeling of loss is the worst, so many great songs and works of art have come from it. Many years ago, I lived near a Dunkin Donuts during a difficult break up. It was a bittersweet time with the aroma of donuts, bad poetry and despair. The go-to sad song back then was “On the Radio” by Donna Summer. It looks like I might have a new sad song.
The Seshen has caught lightning in a bottle thanks to vocalist Lalin St. Juste, bassist Akiyoshi Ehara, rrummer Chris Thalmann, keyboard/synth player Mahesh Rao, percussionist Mirza Kopelman and sequencer Kumar Butler.
The San Francisco Bay area band’s upcoming reggae and dancehall influenced album, Nowhere, is scheduled for release on October 6th.
