The Night Will FInd Us by Matthew Lyons, book review

The Night Will Find Us by Matthew Lyons is set in The Pine Barrens in New Jersey. The Pine Barrens is part of the 1.1 million acre area also known as the Pinelands National Reserve. If you want to go on a camping trip in a never-ending forest with a few ghost towns, then the Pine Barrens would be perfect. You could read The Night Will Find Us until you have time to take the trip.

Goodreads Synopsis:

Rocked by violent tragedy during an end-of-school-year camping trip, six teenage friends – Parker, Chloe, Adam, Nicky, Josh and Nate – find themselves lost and running for their lives through the darkest depths of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, a million-acre forest in the heart of the state. Banding together to survive, they soon discover that there is something far older and far crueler waiting for them in the woods – something that doesn’t want them to escape.

Review:

Parker has some serious anger management issues. Unfortunately, he takes the anger out on his friend Nate and kills him. Nate haunts him for the rest of the book. Is it really Nate’s ghost or something else?

Chloe is Parker’s cousin. She has some psychic abilities and at some points can almost hear the forest. The background story appears to her as a dream but then it becomes clear that the story is true. The background story about Mary is really excellent. There could be a book just about Mary and the creepy tree.

Parker and Chloe are trying to escape the forest but they cannot find the way out. It seems like they are going in circles or the forest is growing as if the forest doesn’t want them to escape. Chloe has to put her psychic abilities to work. She wants to end the endless camping trip before the forest traps them forever.

If you enjoy horror novels with supernatural occurences in a natural setting, then The Night Will Find Us could be your new favorite book. If you have a severe fear of camping, then you should ease into the camping mindset. Have some smores and a campfire!

Countdown to Gore Orphanage Premiere: Bucket List and Other Things

There are 53 days until the “Gore Orphanage” movie premiere. Let me tell you why I’m excited about this event.

First of all, there are not many movie premieres in Sandusky, Ohio. I can’t say that there have been any within the last five years. So I’m happy that something cool is happening around here. It’s also on my bucket list to attend a movie premiere.

Secondly, my boyfriend is a huge fan of horror movies. He does a lot of nice things for me so I’m taking him to see this movie. I need him to go with me just in case I get scared. The odds are fairly good that I will be watching the movie, while having a death grip on his hand. The other hand might be covering my face. It’ll be just like the old days when people went to scary movies with their boyfriend.

Lastly, I get to wear a dress to an event.

For all of these reasons, I’m super excited about going to see “Gore Orphanage.” I never thought I would be excited about a scary movie but the time has arrived for getting out of my comfort zone. Well, the time will actually arrive in 53 . . . almost 52 days.
