Lemonade and Worm Stand: NaBloPoMo

optimist

What do you think of the idea “if life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” Do you think it’s always possible to make something bad into something good?

It’s so cliche. Yet, it’s true. Most of the time, you can turn a negative into a positive. Maybe not always. Trust me. I know. I have had plenty of not so great things occur and plenty of days that I wanted to give up.

When I was a little girl, I wanted to have a worm and lemonade stand. My mom thought it was hilarious but maybe not a great idea in reality. In theory, she thought it was very bright. So that was one time that I didn’t make lemonade. I didn’t catch any worms for a few days. I wish I had thought of cupcakes instead of worms. I was only five. I wasn’t allowed to make cupcakes by myself yet.

There were more than a few tears shed and then I made myself get out of bed. Crying in bed all day was not going to help at all. Someone has to make something positive in the world. Why not lemonade?

I lived in transitional housing for two years where there lemons all over the place. It was up to me to make the program work for me. I didn’t have to have regular lemonade. Regular lemonade is not my thing. Pink lemonade is much better.

The point is you have to make your life work for you, whether you make regular lemonade, spiked lemonade, pink lemonade, lemonade cupcakes.

By the way, here is a recipe for strawberry lemonade cupcakes from doublethebatch.com.

  1. Your mom still thinks the Lemonade and Worm stand would have been something to see! It would have been funny, brought a smile to almost everyone’s face (except maybe the local health inspector), and you would have made friends with some fishermen and maybe we would have had walleye for dinner! Win – Win
