Flawless Friday Video: Laila Biali

Laila Biali

This video is pretty sweet. I’m getting a sugar rush just thinking about it. It could be the discounted Valentine’s candy though.

Seriously, check it out.

Sleep Deprived Music Review: Angelica Garcia

Angelica Garcia will be releasing her latest album, Cha Cha Palace on February 28.

Her music is like a bluesy salsa mix. It’s not like Latin pop. There’s too much depth and soul to be any kind of pop music. No offense to Latin pop musicians – I mean, I’m not the only one that loves Marc Anthony, am I?

Still, it will probably make you want to dance. Garcia brings the dance party but also emotions and protest anthems. It has all of the feelings that people have. My favorite song on the album is “Valentina in the Moonlight.”

With Mexican and Salvadoran roots in the San Gabriel Valley, East of Los Angeles, Garcia has built a personal and professional life in Richmond, Virginia.

I used up all of my free listening chances on this album. I had to ask for a second round just to finish this review. I used up all of the 2nd round also. No regrets. Would recommend that everyone use their time to listen to the Cha Cha Palace.

I’d like to listen to this album at ICE protests and road trips across the world.

‘WEAR YOUR ROOTS’ t-shirts and posters are now available for sale via her website, with all proceeds going to regionally based organizations supporting migrant families in the U.S.: ¡MIRA!, Annunciation House, and Immigrant Families Together .

Meet and Greet: David J

David J on bandcamp

Who: David J

What: New single “I Only Hear Silence Now” featuring Emily Jane White is available.

Bandcamp / Album orderhttp://bit.ly/36NTJOp

Why: “This video was pieced together over several months.  Most of the footage was shot by the intrepid Pierre Malacarnet at Beck Studios in Wellingborough, the site of the original Bauhaus recording of ‘Bela Lugosi’s Dead’. I filmed the game and lovely Emily Jane White in a 19th Century bathtub in San Francisco.  Pierre then shot some other cut away scenes in Berlin and edited the whole thing together quite brilliantly.  The mood of the film resonates perfectly with that of the music,” says David J.

Cold Case Quest: Lisa Denby

Lisa Denby

Although Lisa Denby did not walk a straight and narrow path during her life, she deserves justice like anyone else.

She had been a prostitute on the east side of Columbus, Ohio. It’s possible that someone she knew took her life by shooting her on August 10, 1998.

Denby was found at the rear of 1562 E. Long St. at 2 p.m. The police believe that she was shot earlier that morning.

No one has been named as a suspect. Denby was listed in a Columbus Dispatch news article about prostitutes who had been murdered in Columbus from 1990 to 2002.

Several of those cases are similar to Denby’s homicide: Cynthia Davison, Carla Hagwood, Brenda Mitchell and Tarienna Glenn. All of the ladies were shot. All incidents occurred on the east side of Columbus. The victims were African-American, except for Mitchell.

So far no witnesses have come forward. If anyone knows anything about any of the cases listed, contact the Columbus Police or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers.

Rewards may be available for information on a case that leads to a conviction by contacting Central Ohio’s Crime Stoppers at (614) 461-8477 or visiting their website.

Area of Denby’s homicide

If you happen to have a photograph of Denby, please contact me at Chasing Destino on Facebook.

If you have any information or questions about Lisa Denby’s case, please contact the Columbus Police Department. The Homicide Cold Case Unit number is available (614) 645-4036 during the hours of 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. You can also call the Investigative Subdivision Duty Desk at (614) 645-4624, after hours.

Kingshold: #bookreview

Kingshold

Kingshold by D.P. Woolliscroft is set in the city of Kingshold, which is on the island of Edland. There’s not a specified year but I would say it probably takes place during medieval times. In this book, magic is a real thing that people accept.

There’s not one main character. It’s told from the point of view of a bard, a sorcerer, the sorcerer’s adopted daughter and a servant at the palace.

The last king and queen have been dispatched by the sorcerer due to their greed and ineptitude at running the kingdom. The sorcerer, Jyuth, has proclaimed that there will not be any other kings and the people must choose a different way of doing things. The privy council decides that there will be an election. Whoever pays the price can have a vote.

Mareth, the bard, has taken a job from a wealthy candidate. His main job is to write songs about what’s happening with the election. The sorcerer’s daughter, Neenahwi, is a powerful sorceress in her own right. When her father retires, she will be taking his place and she isn’t looking forward to it. Alana, the servant girl, is responsible for taking care of Jyuth. He sees that she’s smart and includes her in his plans.

It took until I was at about the 20 % point before things started to click for me. So I would recommend sticking it out because the story really gets pretty good by the 45% mark.

If you are a fan of stories with magic and intrigue, then you will probably enjoy Kingshold.

If you are a troll, orc or a greedy politician, then this book is too complicated for you anyway.

How to not be so poor

https://www.etsy.com/listing/520907445/pattern-help-me-im-poor-mini-funny-cross

Dude,

I have so much experience with being poor. It’s taken some time to figure out how to not be really and truly poor. I mean, I’m still a broke ass bitch.

However, the money situation is not as bad as it used to be. In fact, my credit score has improved enough that I could buy a new car. At a real car dealership instead of from some guy on craigslist or down the road.

Here is what I know. Maybe it will help you get your house in order.

If you know the secret to making money, you can let us all know.

  1. Take a close look at your finances on a weekly basis. I know it’s scary but you have to work through the fear. It’s the only way.
  2. Most banks have an app for your phone. Use it.
  3. Budget. Budget. Budget. For awhile, I stopped writing down what bills and how much. Huge mistake on my part. You might think you have extra money and forget to pay the water bill. Big oops. So now I have a little binder with a folder for each month.
  4. If you have a subscription to anything that comes out of your checking, don’t forget about it when doing the bills. If you subscribe to something for a time when it’s free, don’t forget to cancel it before you have to pay or remember that it’s going to cost money.
  5. Be aware of your credit score. Also terrifying but necessary. If you want a house or a car, you need to know what is going on with your credit.
  6. Sustainability. Can you survive on your income? What can you do to make it work? How much can you do for yourself? Some people make their own coffee instead of going to Starbucks. It’s delicious coffee. Can you afford $25 a week on coffee?
  7. Side hustle. Everyone probably has a side hustle – blogging, eBay, Etsy, etc.. You have to decide if it’s worth it. Does it make money or waste time? Personally, I have never, ever, ever made money from doing surveys. So for me, it’s a waste of time.

I have a budget board on Pinterest. Take a look, there might be something that helps you figure out the disaster that is your financial health.

Meet and Greet: Adult Mom

Adult Mom

Who: Adult Mom is the solo project of Stevie Knipe.

What: They are releasing a new single, “Berlin.” It is awesome and lovely.

Why:

“‘Berlin’ is a song that took over a year to write. It’s about processing the loss of an important friendship without knowing the exact cause of the loss.” says Stevie Knipe (they / them), adding “Through loss, there are moments recalled, like meeting for the first time, the moment you got close with that person, singing “hole” in dorm rooms, drinking beer in a bathroom, and of course, the complete paralyzation that comes with loss. It’s about being in between healed and not, and trying my best to calculate the reasons why she left.”
