A long time ago, I kept track of all of the books I had read. I loved crossing the books off of the list. Life happened and I stopped keeping track as well as before. Thank goodness for Goodreads. It’s time to get my #alreadyread list updated.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Totally entertaining. Better than the movie.
The Accidental Beauty Queen. A good book for the beach or vacation.
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. It’s a controversial classic.
After the Green Withered. Good science fiction book.
The Age of Innocence. It’s a classic but I don’t remember much about it except that there may have been fancy rich people.
Akata Witch. Excellent. Loved it so much.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. A classic book that I still love.
And the Mountains Echoed. This book will be a classic someday.
Why: It’s always a good time when Air Circus is playing. If my neighbors weren’t watching me out in the garden, I might bust a move out there. They’ve seen me in my pajamas so there’s nothing left to lose. It could be my own little garden party with Air Circus.
Color Out is a new solo rock and roll venture from Dave Hedrick. His music is reminiscent of the music from the 2000s. I’m ok with it and you probably will be too. Today Color Out is gracing us with their presence on the blog.
Where was your first concert as a fan? As a performer?
I think my first concert was Nine Days in Tallahassee, FL. I was up visiting my brother in college at FSU and went to that show at Floyd’s Music Store. As a performer, my first concert was a house party my senior year in high school. It was actually the night before prom and we ended up playing a couple songs in the backyard. It was such a good time and of course the cops came which just means it was a good party.
Do you have a bucketlist? If so, what’s on it?
I actually do as a musician and I’ve been fortunate to be able to cross a couple items off. When I first started, just getting songs on iTunes was a bucket list item. A couple others that I’ve done is get played on internet radio, get a song on TouchTunes jukeboxes (Those are the digital jukeboxes at bars/restaurants), get a sync placement for one of my songs and hit 5,000 subscribers on YouTube. A couple that I am looking to do in the near future – Get a song on a Spotify editorial playlist, tour Europe and write a full length album with a producer.
What was the last thing that you read?
I am terrible at finishing books. I really need to read more and that’s a resolution of mine I am failing at. The last thing I read was probably a news article dealing with this COVID-19 stuff. Super lame I know.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Ruston Kelly, PLTS, Jason Aldean, and also listening to a lot of 90’s grunge. Not a ton of new rock out right now so I find myself just going back and listening to old records that really influenced me as a songwriter. I find myself studying them more than listening, as I am always looking to learn from these artists to make my music and songwriting better.
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be doing?
I am technically not a professional musician since I do other things to supplement income. With that being said, if I wasn’t a musician I would probably be into film or photography. I have a strong creative side so I can’t imagine that not coming out in some other capacity.
Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?
Ace Enders from The Early November. I really dig his music and his style. He has a studio in New Jersey I would like to record at someday. The other one is Nick Hexum from 311. I’ve been a huge 311 fan since a kid and I would love to do a song with him. He has such a unique voice and style I think it would sound really cool.
What do you want people to know about your music?
I just released a new EP titled ‘Perspectives” on 3/13/20 featuring 6 songs. You can stream this EP and the entire catalogue on all major streaming platforms so go check it out. You can also follow Color Out social media at these links:
Color Out is 100% rock music, but there are a lot of elements and genres mixed in that I think a lot of people will appreciate. In talking with some fans, I think what they connect with most are the lyrics. There is a lot of emotion in these songs and they tell real-life stories dealing with relationships, love and heartache.
Although Nanette Miller was found deceased on December 3, 1993, it is very likely that she died a few days earlier. Her sister had not heard from her for several days. So the sister went to Miller’s apartment where she found her body.
What was she doing in the days just before her death? I have not been able to find any more information about Miller. Was she out shopping or for a walk? Did she know her killer?
At first, the police thought the cause of death was related to being beaten. However, the coroner ruled that the cause of death was strangulation.
Miller’s apartment was within a five mile radius of the locations of where Frances Smith,Janet Amar and Darlene Gervins were found. I’m not 100% sure that the cases are connected but it’s totally possible. Amar and Gervins were killed about a year before Miller.
There were no suspects at the time. No witnesses have come forward with information.
It’s not too late to report any information to Crime Stoppers or the police. There are some links below for reporting information. If it was your sister, wouldn’t you want someone to say something?
I think that the title of The World Breaks Everyone by Laura McNeill comes from this quote from Ernest Hemingway.
“The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially. If you are none of these you can be sure it will kill you too but there will be no special hurry.”
The World Breaks Everyone is set in New Orleans. Have you ever been there? It’s not like most places. I think it’s an interesting mix of rich and poor, music and history. I haven’t been there since 1997 so I cannot say how it’s different since Katrina. Hopefully, there will be a trip to New Orleans in the future.
Olivia Jacobs is 16 years old. Her mother passed away so her father is raising her alone. She seemed like a spoiled brat. Add some depression mixed anger and she is a downright unpleasant person. I should be more understanding but I struggled to get past disliking Olivia.
Olivia’s father has a new girlfriend, Kate. Theo and Kate have kept their relationship under wraps because they didn’t want to upset Olivia. Kate seems like a decent person with secrets of her own. When Olivia meets Kate, she is downright rude to Kate.
Someone attacks and kidnaps Olivia’s dad, Theo. Olivia manages to escape but the bad guy finds her. She eludes capture but has to stay hidden until she can figure out what to do. At some point, she reaches out to Kate. Kate is a good person so she helps Olivia. Most people would not be so forgiving but Kate just wants to do what is best for this lost teenager.
Some things in the book were repeated quite often.
* Olivia’s mother was extremely beautiful and generous. She was a saint.
* Olivia was fair like her mother, who was white. Her father is African-American.
* Her grandparents did not approve of the choices her mother made. She has a non-profit organization to help those less fortunate. They also did not like Theo. They are constantly trying to drag his name through the mud.
If you are looking for a book to read in between long or difficult books, then this could be a good choice.
If you are a literary snob, then you may or may not enjoy this book.
The EP, “Sun’s Out: Strung Out,” sounds like The Von Tramps are ready to party! Maybe our idea of what a party is has changed a bit but the spirit of partying is the same. People just want to have a good time – dance a little, drink a bit more than they should and watch other people have a good time. I do miss watching people and seeing their drama unfold right in front of me. So until it’s time to get back to a party out in public, there’s still good music to be heard wherever you can stream music.
The Von Tramps are a punk rock band from Minneapolis. I love their name.
The Von Tramps are Jenna Enemy- vox/guitar, Chelsea Oxborough- guitar, Krissandra Anfinson- Bass and Kieran O’Donoghue- Drums
Their music reminds me a little bit of ska/punk bands from the late 90s/early 2000s. Those were good times. Some people weren’t a fan of ska bands. I think those people must be deaf or something. Good music isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Maybe they don’t appreciate a good horn section?
If I could go to some dive bar and hear The Von Tramps live and in concert, that would be amazing. I might even go buy a new pair of Doc Martens for the occasion.
We’re all finding out that it can be disappointing to be living our best life and the whole world comes to a grinding halt. Singer/rapper Simply Vika isn’t letting a pandemic stop her from making music or music videos. Kudos to her for trying to still live her best life.
Gervins left Scatters Bar at midnight on February 15 with a black male, between 30-40 years old. Currently, the man would be at least in his 60s.
Some of the bar patrons saw Gervins leave the bar with the man who could have killed her. They gave a description but it is unclear if there was a composite sketch of the man.
Scatters Bar, at Lilley Avenue and E. Main Street, was a few blocks from Gervins’s home on Lilley Ave. Her home was also in the same neighborhood as the locations of where Amar and Smith were found. Amar’s homicide occurred on January 23, 1992 – a little less than a month before Gervins’s homicide.
It is entirely possible that it was the same man from Scatters Bar that killed Gervins, Amar and Smith. Did they know him from the neighborhood? I totally believe that the killer was familiar with the east side of Columbus. He probably lived or worked in the area.
I’m not the first person to notice that in the 1980s and 1990s there were several cases in which the victims were strangled. Many of the victims were African-American women. Some of the women had links to prostitution. However, I think that the women in these cases were easy targets – not necessarily because of prostitution.
Of course, not every strangulation case is connected but I believe that many of the cases could involve the same killer. There could even be two serial killers, who happen to have similar MO’s (modus operandi).
The possibility of a serial killer in Columbus was reported but no one seemed to pay attention to the news. Unfortunately, the list of victims increased instead of anyone finding the killer. In 1992, there were eight similar deaths. In 2002, there were 24.
It is not to late to come forward with information to give these ladies and their families justice.

The Harpy by Megan Hunter is set in a pretty typical town. Lucy and Jake live in a nice home with their two sons. Lucy is a stay-at-home mom while Jake works at an office. Their life is nice and comfortable. It could be wrapped up in a nice gift box with a lovely bow.
Then one day Lucy receives the news that her husband is having an affair with a co-worker. She doesn’t know what to do except cry and be angry. Finally, Lucy decides to give Jake another chance.
They come up with this deal that she is allowed to hurt him three times in whatever way that she wants. People say that sort of thing during in an argument. What are the statistics on following through with inflicting pain on someone that has caused you pain? I guess that why there are so many shows like Snapped and Forensic Files.
So things are going alright for awhile. Definitely not perfect but they are trying to make the relationship work.
In between thinking about the relationship and taking care of her kids, Lucy remembers her fascination with Harpies. A Harpy is a half-bird, half-human creature. The most accurate description of them is that they are agents of punishment.
Anyway, Lucy discovers that Jake cannot be trusted. So she may have turned into Harpy – either in her mind or in a physical way. Lucy seems happy in this form. Maybe she feels free because this is her true nature – an evil, vicious bird. It may not work for everyone but maybe it will work for her. I hope she finds someone to take care of her kids while she’s off finding her true Harpyness.
If you are looking for a good book with plenty of drama and Harpies, then The Harpy should be the next book on your list.
If you are a cheater or have a fear of birds, also known as ornithophobia, then you have other problems that you should attend to first.
I received this ebook from Netgalley in exchange for doing a review. All opinions are my own. Obviously.
