Summer Reading Challenge #4: I Am Malala

The challenge that I just finished for Nerd in the Brain’s summer reading program was # 26 – read a book about a real person that you want to know more about. I chose, “I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood up for Education and was Shot by the Taliban” by Malala Yousafzai.

The thing that I enjoyed about Malala’s story was that she was a girl who wanted to enjoy time with her friends and family. She also wanted to learn so that she could be a productive citizen.

When the Taliban came to Pakistan, they tried to stop females from getting an education. Malala spoke out against the new rules. She said it was like the Taliban was trying to erase the existence of women from society.

She even had a blog under an assumed name. It was tremendously brave of her to stand up for the rights of girls to attend school.

Most people aren’t as brave as this girl, who was only fifteen when she was Shot by the Taliban. She is 17 today. She is proof that one person can make a difference.

I could be the worst cook in America. My boyfriend tells his friends about my cooking disasters. I'm glad someone is amused. I like movies, music, comic books and corny jokes. View all posts by holley4734
