For the next book in Nerd in the Brain’s Summer Reading Challenge, I completed #8 – Judge a book by its cover – read a book you chose just because of the cover. The book that I chose was “How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accent” by Julia Alvarez.
I love this cover. It’s beautiful, isn’t it?
The book was pretty good. There were plenty of interesting stories within the story. Then there was the end. The anticlimactic end. It didn’t feel like an end.
I don’t think any of the family issues were resolved. All of those issues are still hanging around somewhere waiting for someone to say something. Anything. Even if the family, said “I don’t want to see you ever again,” it would have been better than ending with a flashback that didn’t really further the story in any direction. Did I miss the point of the ending?
I guess I expected more.
I love the cover too and feel disappointed when the contents don’t quite match. Unresolved endings are not my favourite.
Great book!
