I was asked to listen to TOMI’s new album, What Kind of Love. At first, I hesitated. What if I had to tell you guys that it’s awful? Lucky for me, I don’t have to tell you that it’s bad because it’s very good.
There’s a video for the single, “What Kind of Love.” The video is not as good as the song. Think Billy Squier’s “Rock Me Tonite” video. I think TOMI and Billy Squier are even wearing the same outfit. Try not to get distracted by wardrobe choices or dance moves.
Seriously, try to focus on the album rather than the video.
The title track reminds me of Duran Duran, which is great. There are synthesizers and a singer with a powerful voice. It’s reminiscent of “Hungry Like the Wolf.” I love Duran Duran.
As good as the title track is, I liked the other songs on the album better. My favorite song on this album is “Coming Around.”
You might think any song that sounds like Duran Duran is the winner. There aren’t any losers on What Kind of Love – only heartfelt songwriting and singing.
