I don’t know if anyone else looks at the police blotter or jail roster as much as I do. Aside from the occasional murder and assault, many people are serving time for driving under the influence. The initials vary according to the jurisdiction . . . DUI, DUII, DWI, OVI, OWI, OMVI. There are also differences in whether the person is drinking, under the influence of drugs or both. Basically, they all mean no one should be driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Unfortunately, the outcome can be detrimental to the drunk driver, as well as other drivers. If the driver is lucky, they will get stopped by the police and spend the night in the drunk tank. Of course, there will be fines and court appearances. I’ve been around people that think it’s no big deal and nothing bad will happen. Why take the chance?
There are still accidents caused by drunk driving. It baffles the mind to think that people still get behind the wheel after drinking. I’m not against drinking but there is a responsibility that comes with it. It’s simple enough to get a designated driver or to call a cab. I would still call my mommy before I drove home after drinking. Trust me, I don’t really want to call. It’s better do that instead of having the cops call her.
M.A.D.D. has been around since 1980. For 33 years, they have been working to bring awareness to this issue. M.A.D.D. stands for Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. Originally, it was Mothers Against Drunk Drivers.
According to the M.A.D.D. website, ” In 2012, 10,322 people were killed and approximately 345,000 were injured.” All of those people have families that are affected. So drunk driving is a huge deal. Call your mother. Call someone anyway.
