What has had more influence on your life perspective: your upbringing or your experiences?
My perspective on life has been shaped more by experience than upbringing. It’s not that my parents didn’t teach me about right and wrong. They encouraged me to be independent and think for myself. I’m not sure if it was their choice or if they just got tired of trying to steer me in the right direction. I was stubborn from an early age, which was probably exhausting for my parents. So I read what I wanted. I read “Go Ask Alice” when I was twelve. After reading that using drugs sounded like a terrible idea. I’m too vain to lose my teeth and hair to drug abuse.
However, I didn’t really feel like I should do anything illegal or unhealthy. I didn’t drive so joy-riding was not an option.
Okay, I smoked once when I was a teenager and a handful of times as an adult. It was gross and I smelled bad. I’m too vain to have an unpleasant odor.
My upbringing taught me what not to do and to follow the rules. Life experience has taught me that sometimes you have to think outside the box. I don’t always write conventional blog posts. It seems to be working for me.
My experiences have also taught me about how I do not want to live. Cardboard boxes are not very sturdy. They also fall apart after is rains. I also know that when you live with a boyfriend or girlfriend is should not be so stressful. If you are walking on egg shells constantly, how enjoyable is your life?
I feel like I have learned more about myself from the things that I’ve had to go through. If I hadn’t gone through anything, would I have learned any lessons at all? I don’t think I would have.
“My experiences have also taught me about how I do not want to live.” This sentence is SO true. I had to experience bad things so that I knew not to do them again. I agree with you. Experience leads us to truth but sometimes it’s painful. We just have to go through it, accept it, and move on. Thanks for your blog. I enjoyed it!
