Is it easier for you to work together with other people or to work alone?
My confession for the day is I don’t work well with others. If I have the choice, I always choose to work alone. Of course, sometimes it’s not possible to do it by myself. Occasionally at work, I know that I can’t lift a resident that weighs more than 150 pounds out of their wheelchair. If only I were an ant, I could lift my own body weight. Instead I’m just a person with limitations.
In English grammar class, the professor seemed to have us work in groups on a daily basis. One day, I could not take any more group activities so I refused to participate. I wasn’t learning anything. It was infuriating. At the time, I didn’t understand why I disliked working in a group. I had heard of introverts and extroverts but I didn’t know what that meant in reality. Basically, it means that I don’t play well with others. It’s taken a long time but I’m okay with going solo.

It’s good to know ourselves and understand the conditions under which we function optimally. It may have taken a while to find out, but think of all the people who never do enough investigating to understand themselves. You’re ahead of the game. 🙂
It’s not that I don’t like people. But I recognize that I struggle in group settings. Thanks for the positive comment.
Exactly! Just because you work better when processing things yourself doesn’t mean you don’t like people. It’s just that people sometimes misinterpret the need introverts have to process more internally. I’m just glad you recognize that there’s nothing “wrong” with you. The world needs people on all points along that continuum. 🙂
