Tell us about a sensation — a taste, a smell, a piece of music
— that transports you back to childhood.
Whenever I hear Peter, Paul and Mary, it reminds me of singing and dancing in the basement. I think I might have started listening to my mom’s eight tracks when I was about five years old.
Even at that age, I thought I understood the heartache in “Leaving on a Jet Plane.” It’s still one of my favorites.
I listened to “Puff the Magic Dragon” about a million times. There was an animated series in 1978 that I probably watched. I don’t remember watching it. Some say the song is about marijuana. Maybe. I was four or five and I wanted to live with a dragon in the land of Honalee. If someone said, “Hey, let’s go to Honalee.” I would be on the next plane.
One response to “Transport to Honalee”
Yes, I’d listen to my dad’s old stuff, too, Holley. He got me into Sinatra. (God bless them both!) PPM had smoking protest folk.
