Quinn the Eskimo: Songs that Get Stuck in My Head. A to Z Challenge

I thought Q would be difficult. Imagine my luck when “Quinn the Eskimo” was stuck in my head. I hadn’t heard it for quite awhile. There are a few covers. Manfred Mann does a fairly popular version but someone renamed it “Mighty Quinn.” It was written by Bob Dylan. I read somewhere that he originally recorded it with The Band as the band. Can you imagine having The Band as your back up? And I’ve also heard that people booed Bob Dylan and the Band because Dylan went electric. Also unimaginable that people would boo. I guess the audience thought he was selling out. All I can say is . . . whatever. I’d be happy to hear Dylan play acoustic, electric, folk, rock, gospel, chamber music. . . whatever.

Quinn the Eskimo

Ev’rybody’s building the big ships and the boats
Some are building monuments
Others, jotting down notes
Ev’rybody’s in despair
Ev’ry girl and boy
But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here
Ev’rybody’s gonna jump for joy
Come all without, come all within
You’ll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn

I like to do just like the rest, I like my sugar sweet
But guarding fumes and making haste
It ain’t my cup of meat
Ev’rybody’s ’neath the trees
Feeding pigeons on a limb
But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here
All the pigeons gonna run to him
Come all without, come all within
You’ll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn

A cat’s meow and a cow’s moo, I can recite ’em all
Just tell me where it hurts yuh, honey
And I’ll tell you who to call
Nobody can get no sleep
There’s someone on ev’ryone’s toes
But when Quinn the Eskimo gets here
Ev’rybody’s gonna wanna doze
Come all without, come all within
You’ll not see nothing like the mighty Quinn

“Just a small town girl – living in a lonely world.” Concert tickets are practically essential. Musicals are the key to life. I like movies, music, books, and corny jokes.
