Cooking with Joni Mitchell: Daily Post

Tell us about your favorite way to get lost in a simple activity
— running, chopping vegetables, folding laundry, whatever.
What’s it like when you’re in “the zone”?

I have a confession to make. On the rare occasion that I have to cook, I either find the country music station or play Joni Mitchell’s “Blue” album. Sometimes I play “Ladies of the Canyon.”

This is my favorite lyric in “Ladies of the Canyon.” I was like Annie, except that I didn’t make such great food. However, I do make pretty good cookies and milkshakes. I did have chubby babies and worried all of the time that they would be hungry. Is that an Italian mom thing or just a mom thing?

“Annie sits you down to eat
She always makes you welcome in
Cats and babies ’round her feet
And all are fat and none are thin
None are thin and all are fat
She may bake some brownies today
Saying you are welcome back
She is another canyon lady”

Try not to judge me. I don’t know why I feel a little more like a domestic goddess with an acoustic guitar or a piano is playing in the background. I think that makes me more like Estrella from “Ladies of the Canyon” than Annie. 🙂 All about music and other things.
It probably doesn’t help the outcome of my cooking. It’s worth a shot. My cooking needs a lot of help and prayers.
My grandpa used to whistle “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” all of the time. It reminds me of good times and good food.

“Just a small town girl – living in a lonely world.” Concert tickets are practically essential. Musicals are the key to life. I like movies, music, books, and corny jokes.
