Le Butcherettes don’t really remind me of anyone else exactly. Teri Gender Bender sounds a little bit like Gwen Stefani but less sugary. Teri and Gwen are like two sides of the same coin. Both sides are different but also cool.
The band has an album, Don’t Bleed, that is epic. My favorite songs on the album are “Out for You” and “Now I Know.”
Their music is as if someone put all of their chaos and emotions into noise and music. Then their friend/bandmate listens to the music and proceeds to smooth out the rough edges – not entirely, but just enough to elevate it from garage punk to . . . What’s a step above garage punk? It’s still punk but more sophisticated.
Le Butcherettes were formed in Mexico by Teri Gender Bender in 2007 or 2008. I wish I had heard of them back then. In 2008, I should have listened to music that was more empowering. I was buying into what all of those romantic songs were selling. Romantic love doesn’t last. Relationships take a lot of work, which love songs don’t always express. It’s easy to get lost in a good romantic song. If you heard songs like “Now I Know,” you would feel empowered too.
I’d like to listen to this record on a solo road trip. A live show would be awesome but Le Butcherettes don’t have any events until December.
I like the song’s sultry vibe, and I love her name Teri Gender Bender!
