Chiara Young has a new video out for “I Don’t Wear Skirts.” Personally, I like skirts but not everyone does.
One person I knew used to fight with the choir director about girls having to wear skirts for concerts. I think the skirt-wearing rule was enforced once but not very often after that year. Now choir directors are probably just happy if you don’t wear pajamas.
Chiara Young says, “I wrote and produced I Don’t Wear Skirts about not fitting into societal norms. Growing up, I was a Tomboy. I always felt pressure to be more feminine, but being feminine wasn’t, and still isn’t, me. Looking back, I’m glad I never conformed: it made me who I am today. This song is for all the womxn who share my experience.”
