Favorite Shows for #Spooktober: AHS Coven

American Horror Story: Coven is part of the horror anthology series American Horror Story. Every season is different but all scary in some way.

American Horror Story usually has a large cast. AHS: Coven includes
Jessica Lange, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates and Sarah Paulson as the main witches/voodoo priestesses. It takes place in New Orleans in 2013. There are also flashbacks to different periods of time – starting with the Salem Witch Trials in 1692.

Jessica Lange is Fiona Goode, Supreme of the Coven. Her health is failing because a new Supreme is rising but no one knows who it is yet. Her daughter, Cordelia, is the headmistress of Miss Robichaux’s Academy, a boarding school for young witches.

There has been a truce between the witches and Marie Laveau, the Voodoo Priestess. Angela Bassett portrays Marie Laveau. No one has ever been a better Marie Laveau. Unfortunately, the truce has been broken so there is some fighting between witches and voodoo practitioners. Cordelia is trying to keep the witches together but they fight amongst themselves.

My personal favorite character is Myrtle Snow. How many times can she be burned at the stake and make a grand re-entrance? She’s eccentric and a bit snobby but she is dedicated to Cordelia and the coven.

AHS: Coven is definitely my favorite season of AHS. I’ve watched parts of this season twice. However, I’m struggling to get through AHS: Hotel.

Plus, Stevie Nicks makes a guest appearance. What witch doesn’t love Stevie Nicks?

Favorite Shows for #Spooktober: Penny Dreadful

Penny Dreadful

Penny Dreadful is a Gothic Horror show. The show is set in London during the Victorian Era. Penny Dreadfuls refers to the popular serial dime novels published in the United Kingdom during this time.

Eva Green and Josh Hartnett are two of the main characters. Other cast members include Timothy Dalton, Patti LuPone, Reeve Carney, Billie Piper and Rory Kinnear.

There are three seasons. It originally aired on Showtime but it is also on Netflix. So far I’m in the beginning of season 2. I suppose I would be finished watching it but the tone of the show is a little dark and creepy.

Penny Dreadful has characters from Frankenstein, Bram Stoker’s Dracula and The Picture of Dorian Gray.

Vanessa Ives, Malcolm Murray and Ethan Chandler are trying to figure out some supernatural things. I’m still trying to figure out why the demons want to possess Vanessa.

Maybe I should watch season 1 again. I’m okay with that. The show is kind of beautiful to watch. The scenery, clothes and most of the people are gorgeous. I mean Josh Hartnett as a werewolf is pretty handsome as far as werewolves are concerned.

My other favorite character is John Clare, aka Frankenstein’s Creature. It doesn’t seem fair that he cannot find love because of his appearance and Dorian Gray always finds love. When in reality John Clare has a beautiful heart and Dorian Gray has a cold heart. I know that Clare will eventually become violent and angry. Gosh darn it.

So if you are into Victorian era gothic horror then you will probably love this show.

Favorite Shows for #Spooktober: The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is loosely based on “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” Think of the Netflix adaption as the darker, spookier sister of the 90s sitcom. Both shows are based on the comic book series, Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” which debuted in October 1962.

So far there are two seasons with a third season more than likely coming to Netflix in 2019 or 2020. I cannot wait to watch the next season. I would have read more of Sabrina the Teenage Witch comics but it’s possible that no one in my family wanted to buy anything witchy or non-Christian.

Sabrina lives with her aunts, Zelda and Hilda, and cousin, Ambrose in Greendale. Salem, the cat, also lives with Sabrina. You might recognize Zelda, played by Miranda Otto, from the Lord of the Rings. Aunt Zelda might be my favorite character. She’s terrible yet delightful.

If you would like to see the full cast, visit https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7569592/?ref_=ttep_ep_tt.

At the beginning of the series, Sabrina is a nearing her 16th birthday. She must decide whether she will go through with her dark baptism or continue with her life as a powerless mortal. She struggles through both seasons with the good and bad within her.

Some people are horribly offended that the witch coven sign their soul over to Satan. It’s a deal breaker for really devout Christians. Personally, I don’t think watching the show will make me . . . anything . . . Christian, Pagan, Satanist. I haven’t committed to anything spiritual yet and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina isn’t going to change that fact.

5 Post-Apocalyptic Movies on Netflix

I love post-apocalyptic movies. Unfortunately, not everyone in my house wants to watch everything related to the apocalypse like I do. I might be watching too many of them lately because that feeling that we’re not prepared for living off the grid is taking up space in my brain. Is it paranoia or just wanting to be ready?

Anyway, I’ve listed a few fairly decent post-apocalyptic movies without zombies that are on Netflix.

Children of Men

In the year 2027, no one is having children. It’s been 18 years since the last child was born. Theo (Clive Owen) is entrusted with escorting a very pregnant Kee ( Claire-Hope Ashitey) to a safe place. But who can they trust? As far as I could tell – only Jasper (Michael Caine) is trustworthy.

Into the Forest

After their father dies, two sisters – Nell and Eva -are alone in their house in the woods. They have to figure out how to survive when the world as they know it is ending. The electricity is out. The food and gas are almost gone. The house is falling apart. This is the movie that inspired me to look up how to live off of the grid. They do alright until a few unexpected things happen.

The Road

I read the book also. When you see it play out in the movie, the story seems so much darker and depressing. It is probably close to what would actually happen in an apocalypse. It is a good book and movie.

The Survivalist

The Survivalist doesn’t say much – not even his own name. He’s living alone in a remote cabin in the woods. Two ladies arrive at his cabin and he is less than welcoming. Can you blame him though? He doesn’t know if they are going to steal his food or kill him. Of course, he’s right not to trust them. They are plotting against him the whole time but nothing goes the way anyone expects.

The Rover

A group of thieves steal Eric’s (Guy Pierce) car. Most people would have given up on getting the car back but not Eric. He goes through hell and kills a lot of people to get this car. You’ll probably wonder why he would do all of this for a piece of crap car. Just watch it. All will be revealed.

Passionate . . .

What are you passionate about?

  • Music
  • While She Sleeps
While She Sleeps. They’re British. I love them.
  • Social issues – domestic violence awareness, homelessness, etc. There are so many issues that I can’t list them all.

  • Books

  • Writing

  • Photography

  • Family is a given, right?

  • I really love all of the historical documentaries on Netflix. I also love Pretty Little Liars and Witches of East End. I’m only human.
  • Handsome men. Again with the human. I could put tons of pictures of handsome men but that would take all day. Too many pictures of handsome men would be boring or distracting. I’m distracted right now.

I Have a Glee Hangover.

This isn’t the post that I wanted to write. I wanted to write something spectacular and meaningful. At the very least, the elusive post should have been hilarious.

It’s not mean to be today. Why?

I’m suffering from a “Glee” hangover. I stayed up too late watching “Glee.” I could not stop watching. Darned you Netflix and your new episodes. No. Wait. I love Netflix and the new episodes. I wait for them all season long.

So I can’t think about anything else except “Glee” and my friend, Lizzi. She’s coming to America! I might get to see her if she stops in Ohio. Glee is set in Ohio. . . .

Anyway, I don’t think Lizzi will be doing a tour of “Glee” landmarks. Maybe we could just do showtunes at Karaoke and take a ridiculous number of pictures and post them on Instagram. Then I could have a real “Glee” hangover and an actual hangover.

This is Lizzi’s blog. She is also a magical unicorn.

P.S. I took a quiz. It said I’m Rachel. I feel like that’s not true. She’s way more organized and bossy. I see myself as a combination of Britney and Santana.

#WeekendCoffeeShare: Music, Netflix and Books.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that

  • I bought a new coffee maker. It has been a complete lifesaver. I would not have made it without you coffee maker . . . or I would not have made coffee without you.
    • “Orange is the New Black” is the best thing ever on Netflix. If I didn’t have to sleep or work, I would be finished already. I took a personality quiz. It said I was Red. Last time, I was Yoga Jones. Maybe I need to do more yoga to get back to being Yoga Jones. OR maybe it’s ok to be Red.

I need this coffee mug. Neeeeed it! It matches my new coffee maker.

  • My boyfriend worked at a music festival this weekend. I went on Saturday to hear some bands. This band in the picture was my favorite.040a
  • Because . . .
  • 062a

Who wants to follow that? Anyway, I also don’t want to follow that either so I’ll end it by giving you their website link.

Check out their music here. .

A Post about Nothing Special

In case you were wondering what I do when I can’t write a word, here is a list. This is what I did today when I didn’t want to write about what I should be writing about.

1. I stayed up too late watching “Fargo.” Again. The TV show, not the movie. Billy Bob Thornton is an evil genius. Mostly, I stay awake so I can see what he will do next.

2. Got the kid on the bus. They frown upon it when she is late. I frown upon it when I have to wait in the drop off lane. So the bus is the best choice for everyone.

3. I watched Jason Momoa on Netflix. Again. I might write a post about the show he is in. I think it’s “The Red Road.”

4. Woke up late. Again. I had some coffee immediately after having one eye open. It’s so hard to make coffee with one eye open.

5. I stared at this screen for a good half hour. I couldn’t think of one thing to write about so I went to the store. It’s way past time to buy batteries.

6. I bought some batteries and eyeliner. However, I forgot bubble gum. Does everyone run into things at the store with the cart? Does everyone do it about five times? I think the workers thought I was drunk. I seemed sketchy I guess.

I was also looking for rock bands that start with the letter X.  Still looking. Thank goodness for Google. I’m taking suggestions. Anyone . . . Anyone. My friend, Jennifer, over at

suggested Xhibit. I’m not ruling it out.

7. Soon  it will be  time to figure out a woman’s worth. No big deal. The answer should be so simple. Yet, it could be driving me to drink. Just saying, I might be in over my head. I will tackle it after 9 p.m. I can drink then and no sooner.

Blog-tember/NaBloPoMo: What makes you happy?

Sept 2nd: Write about what makes you happy, from the little joys to the huge game-changers.

1. Flavored cream for my coffee. I would love it if someone could bring me some before I get out of bed.

2. Summertime.

5. Just Dance with the kids.

Hell On Wheels: Netflix

Well, I have no one to blame but myself. I am so sad because I binged on “Hell on Wheels” on Netflix. Now I have to catch up with it on real television or wait until it comes out on Netflix. It is such a long wait for current seasons of any show to appear on Netflix.
I’m not sure if I can wait for “Hell on Wheels.” I wonder if AMC has episodes online. I’ll get back to you after I do some research.
Common’s character has the best hats. I’m hoping that the bear didn’t get the best of him. His story was one of the reasons that I kept watching the show.

It almost makes me want to get cable. Almost.

P.S. AMC does have episodes online. Whoo hoo!!
