Crime & Punishment?

Peaceful Streets Project

Currently, I live in a town with a crime rate that shows no signs of decreasing. Assault, theft, and drug-related offenses seem to be very popular charges. I read the newspaper and the jail roster several times a week.

There has also been a fair share of police corruption and incompetence. Every week it seems like there is a new case that the police have botched. In several instances, the police are the ones in hot water. It seems like they either are not charged or get a slap on the wrist. I know it’s nothing new but it’s still aggravating.

The whole system is backwards and upside down. There have been comments on the newspaper’s website that practically blame the victims of crime. On at least two occasions, comments were made about the victims were in areas of town that people don’t think are safe. The town is not that big. Isn’t it the same town? If it’s terrible on one side, it probably isn’t much better anywhere else. Personally, I don’t think any areas of town are safe.

If we aren’t protecting ourselves from criminals, we have to worry about the police.
Who would want to get involved? Maybe no one does because they don’t know what to do. What can people in town do to improve things? Everyone should learn what their rights are and put them into practice. I know that the Peaceful Streets Project uses video cameras to monitor police behavior.

“Just a small town girl – living in a lonely world.” Concert tickets are practically essential. Musicals are the key to life. I like movies, music, books, and corny jokes.
