Although I’m not a sugar plum fairy anymore, I still believe that there is something magical about the holidays. It’s just more difficult to find.
We’re all trying to recapture the magic. We drive ourselves crazy with shopping, decorations, holiday cards, Christmas programs, office Christmas parties, Secret Santa gift exchanges and so on. It’s not as simple as it used to be.
I think it can be simple again. The magic is in giving to others. It’s in the joy of watching kids open presents. Honestly, it is so much better to see how happy they are than to open my own presents.
The magic is in Christmas carols. Sometimes, they are so beautiful that I tear up a little. I still take some teasing from my friends, but it’s all in good fun. “O Holy Night” always brings tears to my eyes. On a side note, I’m also a big fan of Wham’s “Last Christmas.”
I think there is magic in Christmas because there is hope. Some of us hope for a better tomorrow or true love. Some of us are still hoping for a unicorn (hint . . hint Santa). Whatever the wish is, there is magic in knowing it is a possibility. It doesn’t hurt to dream of having or doing something fabulous. Like being a sugar plum fairy again. Since I’ve misplaced my wand, I will be doing something else fabulous like donating toys or taking wedding pictures for a friend. (The last one scares me a little but it will be fine)
Happy Holidays! Hope you all find a little magic this year!

O Holy Night by Patti LaBelle (or as my kid calls her Patti the Belle)
Lovely post in the 12 Days of Christmas Writing Challenge. Thank you so much Holley for sharing your Christmas magic with us all. I think Santa will give you a wand, but unicorns don’t like to be possessions. A unicorn will be to visit you on Christmas Eve.

Awesome job and post Holley! My Word Press friends will enjoy getting to know you.

Great word.
🙂 thx for putting a smile on my face 🙂
You’re welcome! 🙂
What a beautiful photo of your little one sleeping 🙂 The Magic of Christmas for me is all about the little ones … And I remember fondly my young childhood memories of Christmas with my siblings. We would go choir Singing around our village freezing under lampposts with the Methodists Sunday School at the time….. We must have sounded like the Cats Chorus LOL…
That particular Song gets to me every time too…
Thank you for sharing, and nice to meet you as I too took up Sindy’s 12 Days of Christmas Challenge 🙂
Enjoy your family over the festive Season…
Sue x

Hey Holley, What a wonderful picture!!! Real Xmas!!
I am a real true example of going all crazy about Xmas and almost forgetting what is truly important… Just did my Xmas post, 5 minutes before midnight hehe
But I am an avid baker! Proof in my post 🙂
Happy holidays to you and your family! xox
Thanks! I look forward to reading your post! I’m about to go to a Christmas program. 🙂

Hello Holley 🙂
Dropping in from Sindy’s blog…and enjoyed your Christmas story…
Christmas *is* filled with magic and you’re right..we’ve forgotten it…making it more about things and stuff instead of it’s simple joyful meaning 🙂
Hi,
Thanks for stopping by! Glad you liked the post! 🙂 Working on presents that will hopefully be meaningful instead of forgotten before new year’s !
Holley
Heh…you will be well prepared! I usually go shopping on Christmas Eve! LOL..it’s not as busy as it would be the days before though…
I’ve gone on the 23rd. We usually celebrate on Christmas Eve. I feel like I’m behind. But I haven’t even thought about Christmas cards – for several years. Someday, I’ll get back to it!
Ah…Christmas cards …it’s a lost tradition here too..which is kinda sad ..
I knowwww!!! My grandma used to hang them on ribbons (the thick felt ones) on the door. I thought that was cool.
Mhmm..that sounds cool…we used to have them all over the house too…set up on the little side tables, hanging from the walls…now…we’re lucky to get 3 in the mail..lol..BUT then my dad used to be very diligent in sending out cards for the other festivals as well as Christmas…to his friends..NOW for years he’s been lazy and not done any of that…it’s a you scratch my back I scratch yours world when it comes to cards it seems 😉
I’m not sure if we got any last year. yes, i agree. people send to those who also send cards.
Mhmm..ah well…maybe the silver lining is we save more trees? 😉
Yeah, that’s true
