Why yes, this is a really large chicken. I think I had a dream about it once. Kind of unusual and strange.
Need coffee first. Then talk.
Tell us about your morning routine. What is one thing you want to change?
Let me preface by saying my morning routine is a bunch of crap. This is what my mornings are like. My mornings run into afternoons, which run into nights.
- I get home from work shortly after midnight.
- Sometimes I sleep for four hours. If I’m lucky, I get to sleep for six glorious hours.
- Then I get the kid up at 6:30 a.m.
- After she gets on the bus at 7 a.m., I drag myself back home and try to sleep for two more hours.
- Most days I get up between 10:30-11 a.m. On the more sluggish days, I sleep until noon.
- I feel guilty about sleeping until the late morning. When I added up the hours, it came out to be about seven hours.
- I stumble down the stairs and keep moving until I find the coffee.
- Drink said coffee with a side of cereal or a bagel.
- I check out the blog. Sometimes I send cheesy love songs to my boyfriend from YouTube.
- Around noon, I eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
- Wait for the coffee to kick in and write until 1-2. There is a lot of brainstorming going on around this time.
- Sometimes, I get to do interviews with cool people – musicians, comic book artists, etc.
- Get ready for work. Try to hide the bags under my eyes to no avail. Use more lipstick than necessary but whatever.
- Pick up the kid from the bus
- Take her to the sitter if boyfriend works late.
- I get to work at 4.
- I’m the mayor of whoville until midnight.
- Then I drive home and start this cycle of ridiculousness all over again.
I would like to change my work schedule because it is cramping my style. When the schedule, changes all will be right with the world. When I say “the world,” I mean my world. I’m ready to get off of this crazy train.
Before I went to sleep, I knew that I would I have an emotional morning today so I planned to do yoga. There are some personal issues that I don’t discuss on the blog. Otherwise, I would have to change everyone’s name and that seems like such a hassle.
So, it’s day 22 of this 30 day yoga challenge. To date, I’ve lost approximately 8 lbs. Amazing. I’m seeing numbers on the scale that I haven’t seen in approximately 5 years.
Yoga also helps me to relax. After doing yoga, I feel less stressed about my daily schedule that I will be posting about later.
It’s been beneficial for mind and body in a different way than a kickboxing class. I took a kickboxing class for a few months. I had some issues with anger that I thought kickboxing would help with. It did help to a degree but yoga is much more introspective.
It’s not very often that a band can make a cover from a different genre and make it their own. Meet I Prevail – they are one of those bands. They have done a cover of Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” but with a heavy metal twist. Even if you aren’t a huge heavy metal fan, you might just fall in love with this band.
If Taylor Swift calls Lee, how awesome would it be if she sang with them? It could be magical, you never know.
Seriously, buy their new album, “Heart vs Mind” on iTunes, Google Play or Amazon Music. You will thank me later, I promise.
I’m so stoked that they were available for an interview. It was a spur of the moment thing.
1. How long have you guys been together?
We’ve been together for over a year.
2. Are there any plans for touring soon?
Yes we have big plans for touring very soon! No announcement on that yet though!
3. You’re an unsigned band. Do you think that’s working in your favor? Pros/Cons?
4. I love the cover of “Blank Space.” Have you heard any response from Taylor Swift?
No response from Taylor yet…. Lee is in pretty bad shape…. We’re doing everything we can to get the kid a phone call from her haha.
5. Anything that you would like to tell your fans?
We appreciate the support so much!! We would have never gotten our music to go viral without everyone pushing our videos!
6. Who influenced you musically when you were growing up?
We all had different influences growing up. Some were Third Eye Blind and Blink 182 early on. And later on other bands were Saosin and Underoath. Our biggest influences right now are A Day to Remember, We Came As Romans, and Bring Me The Horizon.
7. Is there anyone that you would like to work with? Other bands? Producers? Songwriters?
.We would love to play a show with A Day to Remember, We Came as Romans, or Bring Me The Horizon someday!
8. Have you had any ridiculous photo shoots yet?
No haha. Pretty standard photo shoots so far! Our music videos were definitely very crazy to shoot though!
9. listen to you on 89x. How supportive have radio stations been of your music?
89x has been playing our music quite a bit. There have been a ton of radio stations playing our songs across the U.S. Sirius Octane has been hugely supportive of us by playing us daily!
The band members of I Prevail are Brian Burkheiser – Vocals | Eric Vanlerberghe – Vocals | Steve Menoian – Guitars | Jordan Berger – Guitars | Lee Runestad – Drums
It’s day 21 . . I think . . of the 30 Day Yoga Challenge. I misnumbered my post yesterday. So now you know, I struggle with numbers and dates, unless it’s a concert date.
Anyway, back to yoga. I still feel as though I’m making progress. No headstands yet but the balancing act is coming along nicely. I can do more poses without falling over immediately. The fish pose was much easier today than the last time.
I found this video on YouTube. I haven’t done a class with this instructor yet. It pleases me when I find new instructors so that I can have some variety to yoga practice.
Am I the only one that feels like I spend a lot of time in downward facing dog? Maybe too much time. What does that mean? What should I be learning from downward facing dog? Maybe the lesson will appear today.
I Googled downward facing dog. It’s supposed to be good for stretching, as well as relieving for sinuses and fatigue. So there it is. The reason for spending so much time in this pose – it’s good for all that ails us.
Do you need to always find new music, authors, or actors, or do you stick with what you already know you like?
It’s a balancing act. Finding new musicians is awesome! However, I still listen to bands and singers that I’ve enjoyed for a long time.
On a good day, one new musician or band will lead me to listen to other musical acts. For example, while I was in college I listened to the Indigo Girls, which led to Joni Mitchell, which led to Joan Armatrading. Most people have never heard of Joan Armatrading but they should. She is extremely talented.
If we’re closed off to hearing new music, we’ll miss out on so much. There’s a lot of crap on the radio but if you keep your ears open, you’ll hear something worth listening to eventually.
Over the last few years, I’ve started listening to Stone Sour, Nothing More, City and Colour. Darling Daughter and I are always excited when the Bring Me the Horizon song comes on the radio. We also get a kick out of I Prevail’s cover of “Blank Space.” It’s awesome and translates well from pop to metal. A few years ago, she liked Justin Bieber. Then it was Eminem. Now she likes music that is a little edgier. Just like her mom.
I went to Rock on the Range two years ago, thinking that I didn’t like Korn. I had no idea what Stone Sour did. I was so wrong. Apparently, I love Korn and Stone Sour. I had heard them both on the radio but didn’t know who it was. Who knew? My boyfriend. He knew who it was.
P.S. Bet you didn’t know that I also like jazz and the blues. I like to keep my musical options open.
Olympic medalist Jim Ryun said: “Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” Where do you find the motivation to start a new habit?
As some of you know, I have started doing yoga and also eating healthier. The motivation comes from not wanting to be stuck wearing sweat pants.
Plus, if I’m this fat and don’t exercise or eat healthy food, I will regret it for more reasons than having to wear sweat pants.
I also do not want to cross the line into full-blown diabetes. Finger sticks forever does not sound like the path that I want to go down. So if I can stay away from junk food and drop the weight, maybe I can keep the diabetes at bay for awhile longer. My doctor told me that 14 years ago. It’s about time that I took his advice.
Here is a video on how to say diabetes. Enjoy!
Hippocrates famously said: “Make a habit of two things: to help; or at least to do no harm.” Add one more important habit to his list.
Everything that I would add falls into the personal hygiene category : brush your teeth, take a shower several times a week, change yóur underwear daily. You would think that people kñow this already; however, this is ñot the case. Recently, I met someone that offended my sense of smell so much that I prayed for a stuffy nose for at least a week. My friend received the stuffy nose instead. That lucky so and so. Well, she was lucky until her nose cleared up later in the evening.
Several of us had the “How do You Tell Someone they Stink without being offensive” conversation. No one wanted to tell the person that they stunk. Some people thought the boss should tell them.
At some point, someone was going to have to say something before the residents complained. In my opinion, there was no way to tell them they smelled, except to just come out and say it. Elderly people and small children are so much better at this sort of thing. Neither of the elderly nor children care much about manners as much as they care about the truth – the honest to goodness smelly truth.
It was another late start to the day. However, I knew that I was going to fit in the yoga workout no matter what was happening.
I was searching on YouTube and found a yoga instructor that I haven’t used before. Her name is Sarah Beth and you can find her everywhere on social media. She was a great instructor. The class had a nice flow – not to fast or too slow. Just right. I’m not sure if there is a Goldilocks Yoga but this would be it.
