It’s so difficult to put Lindi Ortega in one category. I mean, she is a fancy renegade pirate cowboy so I don’t think she necessarily appreciates categories or stereotypes.

I read that she is a fan of Quentin Tarantino’s movies. When you hear her latest album, Liberty, it will make sense. If Tarantino makes another western, he could just use all of the songs on this album and be done. This album has probably transported everyone that hears it to a different time and place.

I also read a description of Ortega that mentioned “high lonesome.” I didn’t know what that was so, of course, Google came to the rescue. The closest definition that I could find was something like high lonesome is a part of a bluegrass tradition, which contains lyrics about heartache and pain about being alone. Yet, the music makes a connection with other lonely people and makes a heartfelt impact. I’m paraphrasing but I think you know what I mean.

So if you’re looking for something different and beautiful, listen to Liberty. If we end up together on a cattle drive or playing poker at Miss Kitty’s bar, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
