Heyo, Amira and Naomi here!

We have been tasked by the lovely Holley to grace your brain with the writings of 2 budding musicians embarking on the vastness that is the music industry. 

To start on a casual note, we share a bunch of things in common ranging from food love to thrifting enthusiasm, many a band rehearsal starting and ending with a plethora of “new”, interesting and unique pieces found in the bargain bin. 
There’s an uncontested joy in the idea of engaging in sustainable fashion. Or contributing, at least a little. 
This coupled with our family’s “thrift over new” attitude towards shopping in general. We have always been conscious of how fashion is constantly changing but individuality remaining at the forefront.

Along with many other things, it’s the music that really binds us. Music has been a constant in both of our lives, at a young age participating in church choir and musical theatre in school, music was everywhere. After meeting in 2017, we realised how similar our upbringings, goals and aspirations were, neither straying very far from music; after which came the formation of the pop duo that is now Chasing Velvet. 
It made sense to us, write, record, perform. Made so simple by the other. Thats not to say it wasn’t/ isn’t incredibly difficult, we are really trying to create something that not only means a lot to us, but is meaningful to our listeners, something that makes them feel connected, to us, a situation or a feeling.

We’ve written quite a few songs about topics surrounding strength and persistence. Something we not only believe in but are striving to embody. Songs like ‘If I may’, ‘ascendancy’ and ‘Innuendo’ are direct responses to  situations that made us feel uncomfortable, unhappy or not ourselves. 
As our career unfolds, the themes discussed in our writing will ebb and flow but will always have powerful undertones that may not be detected a surface level, sharing struggles and advice through lyric to further connect with our audience.
