Poetry Maybe #16

poetry

the orchid and the devil

not hysterical
not quiet
admire the honesty while
telling lies about
the territory of my heart
muddled with yours

we wander in clockwise circles
walking with opposing compasses
no one wants to hear
the deafening lightning

when we were on the

same path with the same compass

now we can’t be at the same airport
or share a junk drawer
while we sail from port to port

you took the lead
nonstop to New Orleans

i rocked the boat to a beat
with no one’s approval

even the devil wants delicate orchids
not the unthinkable storm, the ruins of honesty

and compass roses
