Hey, what’s up, it’s Reed here from Cthulhu Dreamt. I wanted to ask you how you deal with depression.
I feel like we all deal with it at some level and in various forms, and sometimes we know what causes it, and sometimes we don’t.
For me, I’ve been pretty fortunate so far but still struggle with it from time to time. There has been one event in my life that pervasively enters my thinking: the passing of my daughter, Ripley.
For many years, I just kind of existed, and then in 2020, I took the opportunity to write about it and tell a parallel story with Cthulhu as the proxy for loss, grief, and depression with my project Cthulhu Dreamt. I asked some friends to join in contributing to writing music, and backstory, and we’ve been creating for it ever since, having released two concept albums, and on the verge of releasing a new EP called Precursor.
I’m also working with a game company, Action Fiction, to develop a tabletop role-playing game (think Dungeons & Dragons) based in the Cthulhu Dreamt universe, where people will be able to immerse themselves into the world by playing through scenarios, listening to music, and reading stories set in this fantasy sci-fi universe.
I have to say that the journey has been amazing. There are still times when I break down thinking about Ripley and how this all relates back to her, and I want others out there who may be going through something similar or even just struggling with those feelings of darkness, we’re here for you. If you don’t have a good network to help you through something, then be a part of our family and network.
If you want to join the journey and see if any of what we’re doing speaks to you, check out the project at https://cthulhudreamt.com.
