Shoegaze soul group, The Veldt, have been preparing for their current musical sound for quite some time. Their new single, “The Everlasting Gobstopper,” is the from their album, Illuminated 1989 album. The album was supposed to be released in 1989.
For reference, Paula Abdul’s “Forever Your Girl” was in the top ten on this date in 1989. The Veldt’s song definitely deserves have its day in the sun and also to be the “Single of the Day.” Personally, I would have loved this song in 1989 as much as I do today.
Originally formed in North Carolina in the 1980s, The Veldt has gone through transformations to become the band they are today. The band includes twin brothers, Daniel and Danny Chavis, as well as bassist-programmer Hayato Nakao.
“As the benchmark of the new sound we had started to develop, ‘The Everlasting Gobstopper’ was a throwback to our younger days of our family getting together on holidays when Willy Wonka will be playing and the certain atmosphere would be filled with a sense of love and security. Upon reminiscing about this, my brother Danny came up with a riff and then called it the everlasting gobstopper as a lullaby to put his daughter (then maybe one year old) to go to sleep. Thus was born this sound that would develop into what we have right now.” says Daniel Chavis.
The album is supposed to be out in the fall. I will be counting down the days. Please take a moment and check out The Veldt and their long-awaited music
