I’ve tried to think of a different topic to no avail. The topic for today is Mikhail Baryshnikov. When I watch Baryshnikov dance, I turn into the chick from “Saturday Night Fever” that says “I just love to watch you dance. I just love to watch you dance.” Can you believe someone thought he was too short to be a ballet dancer? He went on to work with choreographers like Alvin Ailey and Twyla Tharp. His version of “The Nutcracker” won an Emmy. “The Turning Point” is also worth watching. (Hint: It’s on Netflix.)
He was kind of a jerk in “Sex & The City.” They had to figure out some way to get Carrie away from him so she could be with Mr. Big. Personally, I was not crazy about that idea.
In 2005, Baryshnikov opened the Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York City. http://www.bacnyc.org/ You can buy tickets to visit. It’s definitely going on the bucket list.
I could go on and on about Baryshnikov and dancing. His list of accomplishments is exceptional. So I posted some videos so you can see what I mean. He’s 66 years old and still dancing. Very cool Misha, very cool.
