Although of Course You End Ip Becoming Yourself by David Lipsky has been made into a movie called “The End of the Tour.” If I were you, I would read the book first.
David Lipsky was incredibly lucky. He got to have an extended interview with David Foster Wallace. They traveled to the last few stops on Wallace’s book tour for “Infinite Jest. ” Wallace was not a rock star but he was as close as a writer could get to being a rock star.
They talked about everything related to the book, fame, rumors of addiction, mental health issues, and relationships. Lipsky didn’t write the interview because Rolling Stone changed their mind.
I think after Wallace’s death, Lipsky could put the interview into perspective. We can catch a glimpse of what Wallace was honestly thinking. The thing that I liked about the book is that Wallace is portrayed as a real human being, who wants things that most people want and also has real struggles.
The thing that I liked the most about the book is that Lipsky stayed in the moment. He didn’t mention the future very often. So it was easy to stay in the moment with Lipsky and Wallace. Honestly, I didn’t want it to end.
*I did receive the book from Blogging for Books in exchange for doing a review. This is my honest review. All opinions are my own. Obviously.
