Do you still get a newspaper delivered to your house? What role do you think daily newspapers play in today’s society where we have access to so many other forms of news 24 hours a day?

It’s been at least ten years since I’ve had a newspaper delivered to my house. Am I the only one who really misses the newspaper?

One of the perks of my job is that the elderly population LOVE the newspaper. If someone doesn’t receive their paper, everyone hears about it and rightly so. So I do get to read the newspaper whenever I go to work.

We can’t touch the internet. It doesn’t really smell like anything. The Internet doesn’t make that crinkly sound when you open a new page.

I still read the newspaper online too. The newspaper has to stay competitive with internet news sources. Newspapers are fighting an uphill battle since the internet reporters can publish their stories immediately. They don’t have to wait on a printing press or for the paper to be delivered house to house.

The Internet has destroyed the United States Post Office,CD sales and socializing. Personally, I hope that the Internet doesn’t destroy the newspaper business too.

  1. I’ve never been a newspaper reader, per se, though the thought of the smell and the texture and the sounds you so aptly pointed out, are delightful. Unlike actual books, I wonder if the newspaper will be able to sustain….but maybe because of the sights, sounds, smells, and textures they will 🙂
