The stars have aligned just in time to have Heather Hellskills and Watts Yoshizawa of The Damed back for an interview. It’s finally October! What better time to have an interview with a band who are into punk rock and all things witchy as much as I am?

Interview

Where was your first show as a fan? As a performer?

Heather H: Meadowlands – INXS. A small dive bar in New Jersey in the 90s with my band, pointfive.

Watts: Fan: Aug. 20th 1983 – X opening up for Oingo Boingo @ the Pacific Amphitheater, Costa Mesa, CA. Performer: 1985ish Talent Show @ Biola University w/ my band Spritle and Chim Chim.

Have you ever been to Salem, Massachusetts?

Heather H: Yes, once! It was very witchy.

Watts: No.

Is there a cause that you are more passionate about than any others?

Heather H: I am passionate about a lot of causes, but I am very environmentally conscious and am always trying to reduce my carbon footprint and constantly urging others to do so as well.

Watts: Education. Sharing knowledge is the best way to empower one another.

How many times a day does someone confuse you with The Damned?

Heather H: Haha. We get tagged on Instagram semi-often. Sometimes we get asked if we are a Damned cover band.

Watts: Often. It never fails.

What is the best thing about being a Riot Grrrl band? Also, how many r’s are in grrrrl?

Heather H: As many as you want!!!

Watts: Being able to express ourselves! There are 3 r’s in grrrl.

Do you have a favorite book, tv show or movie about witches?

Heather H: I loved Witches Of Eastwick!

Watts: Original 1939 -The Wizard of Oz

Will there be a tour in the near future?

Heather H: We are planning a Pacific Northwest tour once we complete a couple of music videos we are working on.

Watts: It’s in the works.

What do you want people to know about The Damed?

Heather H: We are very passionate and don’t hold back (musically or lyrically). We don’t fit into any 1 mold, genre wise.

Watts: We are a force to be reckoned with. Back us up or move aside!
