Poetry Maybe #18

poetry maybe
common prey chasing their predator
round and round the planet
stars falling out of step

a pisces/leo love match made on a wish
made of Hector Lavoe records
and shots of moonshine

one afternoon
the universe answered
by telling them to
undo the last commitment

wash it away with mint julep
forget that lush feeling existed
pretend the moment was repulsive
chalk it up to being naive

who knows that one has been motionless
except in nostalgic dreams that
have them screaming and running
to catch a plane
that carries their heart on the wing

no finger snaps
or clumsy tempers
can stop the ascension
to their separate destinies
