Tampa, FL-based pop artist Malachi Gagnon owes some of his success to his music going viral after singing for his family during the pandemic. The rest can be attributed to singing in church and a love of music. He has just released a third single and will be finishing an EP soon.

Interview
Can you describe what it was like to have your video go viral?
It’s super surreal. I never expected to have the traction that I have had – it’s amazing! All I’m doing is having fun and doing what I love, and some crazy things are coming from that.
What are you listening to at the moment?
Generally some Harry Styles, a little bit of Charlie Puth’s new album, always some Morgan Wallen, and lots of Bailey Zimmerman.
How long have you been singing?
Well, I’ve been singing my entire life, but I’ve been singing more “professionally” for about two and a half years.
Do you have a songwriting process?
Yes…most of the time, it consists of sitting down with my guitar or at my piano and just messing around, finding an idea and pulling emotions I can find on that topic from my own experiences and from the stories of others.
What do you like about your hometown?
Tampa is just such an amazing place to live! There are so many opportunities, lots of great people and connections. It’s also in Florida which makes for some nice weather.
Have you seen the new Elvis movie?
I have not…but seeing it is definitely a priority of mine. I’ve heard amazing things about Austin Butler’s performance.
Who taught you to play the guitar?
I’m mostly self taught, although my good friend Walter Robbins was the first person to teach me a chord.
When do you think your EP will be ready?
Towards the beginning of next year is when I’m hoping. We are working on a live show to go along with the release.
Do you feel comfortable on stage?
I feel very comfortable on stage – for about two years I’ve been leading music at my church every Sunday. I feel at home when I’m on stage!
What do you want your fans to know about your music?
I think of them while I’m writing and working on all of my songs. I hope to release music that connects with their hearts. I’m thankful that anyone would listen to my music and I promise to always give them my best!
Cool stuff, and the new Elvis movie was spectacular.
Thanks! I’ve been meaning to watch it. Soon I hope. 🙂
With Priscilla and Lisa Marie giving their endorsements, I was eager. It doesn’t fail. In fact, the recreation of the ’68 Comeback Special was mind-blowing. They even got the wardrobe the audience down pat. Stellar job. Must-see. 🙂
